  1. Robbie doesn't turn double plays, he paints them.
  2. joe randa would win the triple crown if he hit against the Sox every game
  3. BAMMMMMMM!!!!! maybe maggs heard JM's pitch for MVP for Number 30
  4. time for a gapper from frank need our big guns to supplement paulie and crede
  5. hold 'em in the fourth. no bounce-back momentum time to show the Royals we're serious about coming after them
  6. go ahead and pencil Schoeneweis in for Saturday night in Seattle he wanted outta anaheim to start and the Sox need a fifth starter. he'll get the crack at the Stewart/Wright/Porzio spot. nickle has solid numbers at Salt Lake City must be a soft tosser, though, only 23 ks in more than 48 innings. doesn't seem as horrid as some of the other KW gems, but it seems that we overpaid again.
  7. The Angels got better last season after they jerked Schoenweis outta the rotation. he pitched three total innings in the post-season and came into this year with a career ERA over 5.00 Glover ain't much. he had plenty of chances to start or relieve and was never better than mediocre. But this guy ain't the answer. hope we didn't give up a solid prospect.
  8. if the Sox are going to win the division, they have to beat pitchers like Darrell May. He's had a decent season for Team Cinderella, but the guy is 31 years old and entered this season with six career big-league victories. This is THE game of the series. If you lose it, you feel as if you HAVE to win the next two. If you win it, the Royals start to squirm a bit.
  9. Another vote for Rowand. Defense. Hustle. Tenacity. Toughness. Let's do it.
  10. I wouldn't rush to give up on Wing. Lefties have value. Same thing on Malone. His control problems seem formidable and he's had injury problems, but there's talent there. The Reds might take somebody like Glover. He'd be a Number Three starter for them.
  11. Reds have two assistant GMs who are making the moves until they pick a new GM after the World Series. The word is that it was OWNERSHIP that wants those four salaries going, going, gone. Heck, they already took D'Angelo. If one of those pitchers comes cheaply, grab him. But the Reds have zero pitching in their farm system and my guess is they will ask for a Class A level arm.
  12. it was three years ago this month that Buehrle was promoted from Birmingham to pitch for the Sox. Saw his first game against Milwaukee at Comiskey. He handled his job pretty well, but except for three games he pitched in middle relief in 2000. Helped him get his confidence for 2001. Seattle might be struggling a bit offensively, but it's asking a ton of a young pitcher to deliver against veteran hitters such as Ichiro, Boone, Edgar and Olerud ON THE ROAD. Cotts might be the right guy, but I don't think Safeco is the right spot.
  13. Nanita, Reed, Anderson and Chris Young (an outfielder at Bristol nobody talks about but is hitting .327 with 10 doubles, two triples, five homers, 15 steals, 23 RBIs and an obp of .396) are what made Anthony Webster expendable. Anybody know more about Young? I believe he was drafted in 2002 out of high school in Texas. He's having a very solid year at Bristol.
  14. gotta go with Escobar. he's got the best arm. he can start or pitch outta the bullpen. He's been pitching well. And Toronto should be desperate to dump salary.
  15. Saw King-Sized Carlos on the mound last night for Charlotte in Louisville. and I do mean king-sized. The over-and-under on his weight has to be 330 -- and I'm taking the over. guy has a decent arm, but he obviously doesn't have much want-to to play in that condition. threw four innings and gave up three earned runs on four hits with two walks and two Ks. the good news is that Hummel had a double and a homer. He's pushing his batting average toward .300 with decent pop. If Crede doesn't get it together at the plate, he will have some competition for the job next spring. And the competition might do Crede some good. Armando Rios also hit a grand salami. Strange that David Sanders didn't pitch in a game that included a 100-minute rain delay.
  16. ooops. brain lock. E-5 that's best defensive FIRST baseman. big series with the Royals messing up my typing
  17. don't trade konerko for livan konerko averaged 100 RBIS from 2000-2002. he's our best defensive third baseman (did anybody watch Daubach wave at those balls Saturday night against Tampa?) Sox need Konerko to deliver the final two months to overtake the Royals. He's primed for a monster August. And Livan is no sure thing. Kevin Jarvis would be cheaper -- and perhaps as good.
  18. Jarvis is worth a roll of the dice as long as the price is a low-level minor-league AND the Padres eat his salary for the rest of this season -- as the Sox did in several of those bone-headed deals this year. just got back from watching Charlotte play tonight. Stayed three innings until the rain blew in. Forget Brian Cooper. He got raked by a struggling Reds' triple A team. Dernell Stinson hit one about 425 feet and then an infielder hitting 9th in the order hit one out, too. Knights were down 5-1 in the third. the good news: Michael Rivera and Tim Hummel both looked good. Hummel hit one into the gap in left center. Word is he played a solid third base all weekend. Rivera has been hitting the ball hard for a month. Even Armando Rios -- smelling salts, please -- had a single to right field against Lance Davis, a left-handed pitcher!!!!! But scratch Cooper. Guys around the park said Wright threw well Saturday except for one long ball. And everybody said Ryan Kohlmeier pitched well Friday. He might deserve a look. He did well as the Orioles closer for about 6 weeks a couple of seasons ago. He could probably handle the Rick White role.
  19. They'd better take two, especially if Sweeney and Ibanez aren't playing. As long as everybody doesn't swing for five-run homers, they should be able to keep the sticks going the same way they've been going since the All-Star game. And more PT for Aaron Rowand. Dude is a gamer.
  20. two things: 1. Somebody, cooper, manuel, koch, Hawk, Farmio, Jurko, Harry has to figure out what happened to Koch's lost velocity. Til it comes back, he's not getting anybody out because his fastball is straighter than John Wayne. 2. Sox aren't going to win the division unless they find some way to get something outta Koch this season. They can't afford to be down a pitcher in the bullpen over a six-month season (saw that last week) and they don't need Koch getting booed back to Clemson every he comes into work. Manuel needs to bring him back into the mix as a set-up guy at the least.
  21. no off day for the Royals. they showed they're serious about this race by trading for Graeme Lloyd. He's no Marte, but he's good enough to turn Roberto and Jose around. Plus, he's got post-season experience from his Yankees' days. They gave up nothing.
  22. Cotts. give us two lefties and three righties. Harden, the other guy who started in the futures game, is showing everybody in Oakland that he's ready. And if Cotts does well, it will take the heat off Williams for the Koch/Foulke trade. If not Cotts, i'm predicting they'll go back to Danny Wright -- because he has pitched well in Seattle several times.
  23. Rick White? How many World Series rings has Rick White won in his fabulous career? The dude had allowed 10 home runs in 47 innings. It's a stretch to say that without Rick White, the Sox would be four games up, not 4 behind. Rick White is lucky he's in the big leagues. Get rid of him when either Rauch, Diaz, Wright or Cotts is summoned to be the No. 5 starter. and let Matt Ginter take White's role.
