  1. twinkies and Rangers tied, 2-2 in the top of the fifth Rangers, we really need you
  2. Who remembers 1968? the Sox traded for Tommie Davis and Looie Aparicio to upgrade the offense still had Horlen, Peters and John to pitch Then they started the season with 10 straight losses and went directly into the tank. That's why you have to enjoy every moment of this season -- despite the twists and turns what I remember about 1967 is the way that team had to scratch for runs, pitch and play defense. Nobody could hit the ball out of the park. Don Buford and Ken Berry led the team in hitting at .241 (entirely different era, but still a remarkably low number). Pete Ward had 18 home runs and 62 RBIs to lead the club. in the end, the offense just died. I think that KC team had young Reggie Jackson and Rick Monday and maybe even Catfish Hunter. Washington had nothing. Maybe Frank Howard and Mike Epstein.
  3. Hunter scores the tying run from second on a wild pitch give the Twinkies credit they're aggressive as hell we've better match that the next four days
  4. Torii hunter just misses a homer to right Rangers still lead, 2-1 bottom of four two outs Hunter on second Koskie hitting
  5. keep the faith if we follow the season long trend, the sox will do something against this guy the third time through the lineup must be a team rule to look feeble the first two times through
  6. does Broussard ever make an out against us? He's as bad as David Ortiz
  7. Teixiera flies to left, stranding three rangers 2 Twinkies 1 bottom of 3
  8. raffy walks on close pitch 2-1 Rangers let's gome runs, Sox
  9. RANGERS HAD BASES LOADED NO OUTS sHANE SPENCER HITS INTO HOME-FIRST dp INTENTIONAL WALK TO a rOD RAFFY UP WITH BASES LOADED 2 OUTS
  10. nice play by robbie to save the force
  11. wonder who the long man is today? Schoeneweis? Adkins?
  12. Danny Wright needs to leave the change up in the dugout
  13. Broussard just kills us 14 homers, at least four, probably five have been against the White Sox
  14. and the twinkies get it back with a leadoff homer by Ryan
  15. Rangers get one in the top of the first
  16. blows frank away with heat
  17. great at bat by Graff, took six pitches, four balls and Robbie does his job with Sac small ball can do the trick
  18. also sez Jody Gerut is a huge Sox fan sez he only knew one thing: Come to the park on the South Side. Too bad Gerut and Mulder aren't with us
  19. Farmer just said that because of the weather conditions the ball will jump today
  20. if you're a Sox fan, you know you have to dream you gotta think they can score some runs off the friggin Gambler with A Rod, Teixiera, Spencer, Todd Greene
  21. would be delightful to welcome the Twinkies to town with a one-game edge Hopefully the Rangers will do SOMETHING for once
  22. excellent post. still remember 1967 -- a one of a kind race with the Tigers, Twinkies and Red Sox. Sox had the upper hand -- but no hitting. finally caught up to them when they lost the last five games -- a double-header to the awful Kansas City Athletics and a three-game series at home to the even worse Washington Senators. 1977 was great fun in July and August, but, you're right, the Royals kicked it in gear in September and it was over. Brett, McRae, Amos Otis were more than we could overcome. So this is special. ENJOY the ups, tolerate the downs. This four-game series with the Twinkies will be a legit playoff series.
  23. Word in the Tampa papers is that the Rays are going to make a big play for Flash. He lives in Avon Park, Fla., and they think they can convince him to pitch for Piniella and stay near home. Just passing along what I hear.
  24. Rex: Thanks for taking the time to answer my questions. The guy who intrigues me the most is Meaux. He has pitched really well the last two years, but nobody really talks much about him -- probably because he is only 5-11 and will turn 25 in October. As always, if you can get one of those pitchers to delier at the big-league level you're thankful. Two and you are overjoyed. FYI == Saw Liefer and Parque pitch in the International League playoffs. Parque pitched pretty well for five innings and then tired. Was throwing 85-86 so his velocity is still down slightly. Liefer was the same -- trying to jerk everything over the right field fence. Also noticed that Matt Guerrier pitched a three-hit complete game for Nashville in the Pacific Coast League playoffs last night
