Krumbling Koch
love to see koch succeed. it would give the team a huge boost. Don't know of any Sox fans who want to see him FAIL. but what would be horrible for this team would be for Koch to return and be put into important games when they are on the line. Something is wrong with the guy this year. He simply doesn't have it. Management was slow to remove him from a critical role and it has cost this team games the Sox should not have lost. It's not outrageous to believe the Sox would have a four or five game cushion without Koch's high-wire pyrotechnics. Even Koch has admitted he has been dreadful. it's time for the Sox to proceed without Koch in 2003 and work on getting him right for 2004.

Clemens vs. Loaiza
good start for Estey. ground ball, called third to Johnson and bouncer back to him by Jeter

damn I'd love to see the Sox play well and win this game most anticipated game since the Cubs' series

Uh-oh
honel is just a baby, developmentally. no need to rush him. give him at least a whole season in AA. If he had attended college, he'd only be heading into his junior year and becoming eligible for the draft. Better to let him refine his pitches, learn how to pitch both sides of the plate and keep his confidence high. Sox have other options. Rauch has pitched well enough the last 6 weeks that he at least deserves a look. We all know how tough it is for any pitcher to come in and succeed immediately. Actually, the most encouraging stat line I saw last night was that Corwin Malone appeared to pitch a decent 5-inning stint for Birmingham.

Krumbling Koch
I'd love to see Koch succeed. Sox gave up an excellent pitcher to get him. He'd be a terrific weapon to bolster the pen and give the team a lift. But I fear if they're going to try to force him back into the action -- and the results will be as deflating as they were that night in Tampa when he served up that meatball to Carl Crawford and took all the helium out of the wonderful sweep of the Twinkies. Sox don't need any more losses like that with only 30-or-so games to go. Pat Koch on the back and tell him to get healthy and help the cause next season.

Robbie wants to stay
it never hurts to look ahead to next year. Not giving up on this year. but part of the fun is putting the next team together. Jeremy Reed 2 for 5 with three ribbies last night. He'll be in the outfield mix next season. Book it. can't remember the last time somebody finished the season at .400 in the minors with nearly 230 at bats, but he is at .407.

Krumbling Koch
sox sent the mighty man to Charlotte. he pitched last night in Durham. Not pretty. Not pretty at all. One inning three hits. two runs. two earned runs. Game was tied at 3 when Koch entered, thanks to a solid pitching effort by Rauch. was not tied when he left. Koch (0-1). He's not going to help this team this season. It's just not going to happen. Something ain't right.

Rotation changed.....
agreed. need to take one of the first two in new york. the yankees are a veteran lineup who will work the heck out of the count against Cotts and make him throw his breaking ball for strikes. Otherwise, they'll sit on the fastball all day long, especially guys like Bernie Williams and Posada. The good news is that it's usually better to be a left-handed pitcher in Yankee Stadium. Just hope Cotts doesn't get too geeked the way he did in Anaheim. Five or six walks against the Yankees is a recipe for disaster. As for Buehrle, it's best to give him the time. He's not the kind of guy who asks for it, unless he needs it. If the Sox could somehow sneak out of there with a series victory and have buehrle poised to pitch against the Tigers (who have six of their 32 wins against the Sox), that would be ideal.
