Olivo will be all right in time. he can catch and throw. He can also run. Plus, he hustles. He just needs more time as a hitter. He has skipped a level, remember. a stay in winter ball working on hitting the breaking ball would really help.
-
that was a single by kennedy olivo picked him off first when Molina missed a bunt attempt estey has allowed 4 hits in 1 1/3
-
Olivo's gun saving estey so far. that's two bullet throws for miguel

Royals lose. Twins losing 3-0 -- and lose Rick Reed the stage is set.
-
a win tonight would give the Sox a 4-3 edge in the season series over the Angels. considering the Angels have been playing without Glaus, Fullmer, Erstad and Eckstein a 4-3 edge is what the Sox need to deliver
-
versus Radke said the Twins just put Rick Reed on the DL and brought up some lefty from the minors also sent Restovich to the minors and brought up a minor league catcher. i believe Twinkies and Royals start four games in the humpty dome tomorrow
-
who's pitching for the Tribe? somebody who can deliver?

I can live with WIN OR ELSE for manuel. If he can't squeeze 88-plus wins outta this team, he doesn't deserve another year
-
Two interesting notes in the new USA Today Baseball Weekly. 1.) Bob Nightengale, whom I believe talks to KW frequently, sez Manuel is a goner if he doesn't get this team into the post-season. In fact, he sez he might be gone if the Sox don't reach at least the World Series. He sez Grady Little of Boston and Jim Tracy of LA are also gone if they don't make the post-season. 2.) Royals about to get a taste of the rotten scheduling the Sox got last week. BB Weekly sez the Royals have to play in Texas Sept. 3, fly home for a day to play Arizona in a makeup game and then leave after the game for Anaheim. Sounds good. Be better if Schilling or Webb or Unit pitches in KC

i don't see any way you could justify starting adkins tonight -- unless Loaiza is injured or has a tired arm. and even if that is the case, you have to go with Wright, not a guy with zero major league starts. What has Adkins shown in his first two starts to suggest this is the right move? don't get it -- especially if Clemens beats Gobble this afternoon and a share of first is on the line tonight.

chicagosports.com, the Trib site, does indeed list loaiza\ maybe jerry is trying to outmaneuver Scioscia
-
adkins -- and his 15-something ERA -- is indeed listed as the starter on the Sox web page. maybe they're trying to give loaiza and colon an extra day of rest

as long as this team remains in the race, valentin needs to play. to sit him out to save money would do nothing but alienate more players -- a tactic Sox management employs too often.

yankees 2 royals 0 no further comment necessary -
if they don't make the playoffs in THIS division in a year when the winner is going to have about 88 victories (perhaps less) then this team should be retooled something ain't right
-
my only question on majewski is this: Why did the Sox trade him to LA and why did they expose him to the Rule Five draft last winter? suggests they have serious doubts about him

still no crede? toe must still be hurting -- or Tony G earns his time with clutch hitting last night on the radio farmer said he didn't have any evidence to back it up, but that he had a hunch Garland was going to come up big tonight hope he's right Been awhile since he's had one of those dominating games with like 22 ground outs. -
not making a playoffs and getting edged by either A) a team that lost 100 games last season (KC) or B) the sad-sack Twinkies, who will delight in shoving in the Sox faces.

i agree that the mental part is crucial. he showed so much progress in 2001 when he improved his control and dominated in stretches that there was talk he would be in the rotation by now. it hasn't worked out for a variety of reasons, but that is so common. Can name a million in similar situations -- Paul Wilson, Pulsipher, Mark Redman, Jeff Austin, Ryan Bradley, Ryan Anderson, etc -- for every team in the big leagues. as you said, first he must regain his confidence. They prove himself again at higher levels. He's shown enough ability to merit patience. The question is how long the Sox will be willing to wait -- and how long they can hold on to him before he become a 6-year minor league free agent. I hope he makes it. Can never have enough good lefties. A more important question is, why haven't Rauch, Ginter, West and Majewski developed as hoped. I know Rauch, Purvis and Malone have been injured. I just remember back to all the glowing reports about the Sox young pitchers in 2000 and how the first wave of young arms would make Baldwin, Sirotka, Eldred Etc. expendable. other than Buehrle -- and at times Garland -- it has not worked as planned just a thought

not just 0-3 with 5 ERA at A ball. That's LOW A ball. And the four walks in 8 innings at that level are more alarming than the 13 Ks are impressive, no matter what his physical condition is. Two years ago Malone looked like a top prospect. Now he has definitely stalled, somebody another team will take a chance on whenever he is dropped from our 40-man. We've had a ton of guys -- Ginter, Rauch, Purvis, West, Malone, Stumm, Majewski in that category -- for a variety of reasons and ailments. Not to mention Parque, Wells, Fogg, Guerrier and others. Just goes to show you that developing good, consistent pitching is the toughest thing to do in baseball. Also the most important.

if Jeremy Reed played in the Cubs', Yankees', Red Sox or Braves' farm system, he'd be THE NEXT BARRY BONDS. Baseball America would put him on the cover every other issue. Peter Gammons would be dropping his name into every edition of Baseball Tonight.

take both franks, if possible kudos to the big man he wants to get to October. Hope he does
