If the Sox couldn't match or beat an offer like that I would be pretty pissed off.

QUOTE (caulfield12 @ Jan 14, 2016 -> 03:55 PM) And for the last month everyone has been arguing we're inevitably going to sign Upton and Cespedes. What changed? I was more trying to lighten the mood...
-
QUOTE (CWSpalehoseCWS @ Jan 14, 2016 -> 03:58 PM) What I'm really interested to see is if the O's indeed sign Cespedes or Upton. Where the hell else could Davis go? Who else has that kind of money for a 1B? He's been marketed as a corner OF, too.

QUOTE (Dick Allen @ Jan 14, 2016 -> 03:31 PM) This is where you are so full of s***. When it was rumored the Sox were after Gordon or Cespedes, you said 4 year contracts were dumb. You also mentioned the Sox should sign Gerardo Parra, the guy that couldn't hit in the AL last year. When the new rumor is Fowler, that is a dumb idea , he is a guy who will have a hard time adjusting to the AL. I think you forgot Houston was in the AL. No, you said now is the time to spend money. Of course earlier you told us the Sox didn't have any money, they spent it all last year, and no way they didn't take a loss during the 2015 season. You also told us there was no chance Cespedes would sign with the Sox unless they paid an additional percentage because he liked the marketing opportunities on the east coast, and/or his 3 months in Detroit. Do you remember what you post, or do you just ignore the fact that you keep contradicting yourself based on the newest White Sox rumor? Dick Allen dropping the well... Dick on top of Caulfield's head.

QUOTE (fathom @ Jan 14, 2016 -> 02:53 PM) I would give up hope from the Sox standpoint. When's the last time they were even linked to him? Oh trust me, I have. I truly think they'll land Fowler & I think it'll be within the next week.

QUOTE (Jose Abreu @ Jan 14, 2016 -> 02:44 PM) Roch KubatkoVerified account @masnRoch 6m6 minutes ago Per industry source, #orioles have made offer to Cespedes. Seem to prefer him over Upton at the moment. Nothing new on Chris Davis. I'm just hoping one way or another, he signs soon so we know what the hell is going on.

QUOTE (bmags @ Jan 14, 2016 -> 01:53 PM) I seriously doubt the difference between cespedes and fowler includes an entire starting pitcher. I don't think it's that hard to believe. Cespedes will probably get $20-22M per, while Fowler will probably get $12-14M per (maybe lower side due to comp pick). That's a difference of around $8M per & that difference alone could land them someone like Fister or Latos.

Like I said earlier, I think that guy was putting out BS. It doesn't line up with anything that has been talked about before & good chance that if he was willing to take a lower deal, another team has more money & he'd be signed right now.

QUOTE (Knackattack @ Jan 14, 2016 -> 12:43 PM) In 28.1 innings in RF, Eaton has 2 DRS and a 37.8 uzr/150, let's do it! Either way we cut it, anything is an upgrade over Avi in RF, IMO. I think Fowler is a bigger improvement than most give him credit for because his name is Upton/Cespedes & he costs a pick.
-
QUOTE (SoxPride18 @ Jan 14, 2016 -> 12:41 PM) The thing about Latos though is his age (only 28). If he does well, maybe hopes to resign him, or slap a pick on him and let him walk. Latos would be nice but how will he cost on a 1 year deal?
-
QUOTE (OmarComing25 @ Jan 14, 2016 -> 12:36 PM) Would Fowler really cost $15 million/year at this point? I'm thinking the cost would be a bit lower. I would assume anywhere from $12-15M per year over 3 years with MAYBE an option for a 4th.
-
QUOTE (fathom @ Jan 14, 2016 -> 12:34 PM) I think they would look at Latos, etc. while keeping Johnson. Lack of starting depth in rotation is scary beyond top 5 I'd really like to see Lincecum, personally. Fister, Latos, etc would be nice as more expensive options on a 1 year deal.
-
QUOTE (Knackattack @ Jan 14, 2016 -> 12:30 PM) Could be a lot of 2-0 1st innings with Eaton and Fowler in front of Abreu and Frazier. This. A 1-2 punch of those two followed by Abreu, Frazier & maybe LaRoche is still a pretty potent start.

QUOTE (Y2JImmy0 @ Jan 14, 2016 -> 10:55 AM) I've explained multiple times how it's not just about the player picked at #26 or whatever it ends up being. It's about the flexibility that having those high picks allows. It's a half-measure. They do this s*** all the time though so nobody should be surprised if it happens again. With that being said, Fowler is a giant improvement from Avisail and the team should be much better this season as a whole. Like we've talked about before, this would be a total Sox move. At this point, we just have to accept that this is how the team will be ran. Frustrating but all we can do is hope it translates into wins.

QUOTE (Y2JImmy0 @ Jan 14, 2016 -> 10:36 AM) Continually giving up draft picks for minor upgrades isn't the way this organization will sustain success. Fowler would improve the team. Hell, it may even be enough to put this team in contention. But giving up 3 draft picks in the last 2 years with a bad farm system isn't a good recipe. It sucks actually. How is it any different than trading two top 10 prospects for a 2 year rental, though? That's how I look at it. Fowler is more than a minor upgrade, especially when Avi has never been above a replacement level player. Yes, he's not going to have the power, but he consistently gets on base, has good speed & improves the overall lineup. There's also no chance he can be any worse defensively than Avi. It sucks to give up a draft pick but as most have mentioned, the caliber of pick isn't anything overly special.
-
QUOTE (shysocks @ Jan 14, 2016 -> 10:25 AM) I would rather have Fowler than Avi + the pick. Exactly. Me too.
-
Seems like Alexei is just gone. Sad to see but I'm not sure he's much of an overall upgrade over Saladino at this point.
-
QUOTE (ChiSoxFanMike @ Jan 14, 2016 -> 10:20 AM) Is Fowler the best option out there? No. Does he make a solid improvement to this team? Absolutely. Is it smart to forfeit the comp pick in order to get him? Hell no. They did it for Robertson & Melky last year. They have the luxury of letting one go away with the shark pick. May not be the smartest but at the same time, is it really any less smart than dealing more prospects for a guy like CarGo, etc? I think the answer to that is no.
-
Is Fowler the best option out there? No. Does he make a solid improvement to this team? Absolutely. If he ends up being the guy, it is somewhat disappointing but lets not act like this isn't a sizable improvement. Think of it this was, if you can't have the top 2, he's the next best option. That may end up being what the Sox are faced with, Fowler or nothing.

raBBit's latest tweet: "Seeing lots of talk about him, received multiple reports that the #WhiteSox could sign Dexter Fowler in the near future."
-
QUOTE (fathom @ Jan 14, 2016 -> 08:58 AM) This guy has been around forever. Doesn't seem to be a BS type guy Personally, I'm just not buying it. With that being said, I really think the Sox either end up landing an OF'er in a trade or more likely go with Dexter Fowler.

Seems like another twitter bulls***'er trying to justify his credibility. Doubt this has any weight.

Marlins sign Dee Gordon to 5 year/$50 million deal
SoCalSox replied to OmarComing25's topic in Pale Hose Talk
I think Brett Lawrie is going to be with the Sox for a long time. Not sure about Frazier, though. -
I feel like the most he'll get is 4 guaranteed with a 5th year mutual option.
-
Weird than Rosenthal didn't include a 4th year in that tweet. Makes me wonder if he's already lowering down into a 4/5 year expectation.
