  1. QUOTE (bmags @ Jan 26, 2016 -> 10:32 AM) I don't know if it's just a pick, it's the committing to a likely-bad defensive OF with limited power. His OBP is great, but, at least with Jackson you know it's a placeholder to upgrade. With Fowler, it's committing to a pretty average OF for a long time. He averages about 2 WAR per year. I'd say that's a little better than average. He's just about to turn 30, too. He still has some good years left, plus the eye test tells me he's a bit better defensively than broken defensive metrics.
  2. QUOTE (Knackattack @ Jan 26, 2016 -> 10:28 AM) So, would you be okay with trading the Shark package for 3 years of Fowler at that price? Basically that has to be the mindset behind signing a QO free agent at this point. That logic is a bit broken to me. Would you rather trade that prospect package for the 28th overall pick? Shark pitched pretty awful for them last year & they didn't reach the playoffs. At some point, we as fans have to concede that they simply "lost" that trade & move on instead of trying to make up for it. People acting like that draft slot is just some sure thing confuse me. For as many Mike Trouts, there are 3-5X as many players who simply don't work out. Drafting is a calculated risk, more-so than a FA such as Fowler, IMO.
  3. QUOTE (ChiSoxFanMike @ Jan 26, 2016 -> 10:26 AM) Would you guys rather: - Give up prospects for Dickerson - Give up the draft pick and $$$ for Fowler For me, it's a hard question that I don't know the answer to. Give me Fowler for 3 years to help the top of the order. I think most are discounting his value due to the pick attached. He & Eaton both with high OBP in front of Abreu & Frazier would do much more for this lineup than most think.
  4. Fowler would make a ton of sense for this team. If he didn't have a pick attached, I feel like most fans would be pounding the table for him right now, personally. Can probably get him on a 3 year deal at $11-13M AAV.
  5. No chance Johnson gets it done, IMO. Would need more.
  6. QUOTE (Special K @ Jan 24, 2016 -> 11:37 AM) My post is garbage. Fixed.
  7. QUOTE (Baron @ Jan 22, 2016 -> 08:39 PM) Dan Hayes had a melt down...so that was worth it It's funny that anyone thinks Dan has any info.
  8. QUOTE (ozzfest @ Jan 22, 2016 -> 08:33 PM) hello third place! 2015-2016 Offseason officially completed on January 22nd.
  9. I've been pretty irrational through this process with Cespedes. Both raBBit & Y2Jimmy both know that. But, how can anyone be pissed at the Sox for how this all came together? Gordon wanted to go back to KC, same with Cespedes in NYM, & Upton didn't want to be here & got 6 years. What exactly was Hahn supposed to do? Let's cool off & think rationally before blurting out some insult at the Sox organization or Hahn in general.
  10. QUOTE (fathom @ Jan 22, 2016 -> 08:14 PM) Opt-outs are ruining baseball. Guys are going to be jumping from team to team so often now. It's basically MLB's way of not guaranteeing contracts, kinda like the NFL, except now the players are in control.
  11. QUOTE (Kalapse @ Jan 22, 2016 -> 08:06 PM) A sneak peak at Merkin's next article. Rosenthal just said the same. "Source: Cespedes deal with #Mets includes no-trade clause. Had higher offers. Pending physical. @Jonheyman and @JimBowden_ESPN on it."
  12. It's over! It's finally over! Btw, NO team was beating the Mets offer. He wanted to go back this entire time. The Sox could not have beat that offer.
  13. So do they add Desmond on a 1 year deal at SS or go longer term & try to stick him out in the OF?
  14. QUOTE (LDF @ Jan 22, 2016 -> 07:43 AM) i think we as fans would be happy with that, but would the sox higher echelon would be willing to do that???? Right now, all we can hope for is an upgrade in the OF & maybe something else. Hard to feel optimistic about them making any other moves but who knows, Hahn could be working on something else as we speak. I get caught up in the Cespedes hype throughout the past month & get very irritated about it this week. Overall, it is what it is. There's a reason no team is willing to give him a longterm deal. Yes, the report is that the Nats have a 5 year offer out to him worth $20-22M per year but I think if that were the case, he would have signed yesterday. This entire process has been a s*** show by Cespedes' camp. Nothing the Sox can do, except get stupid & offer him 5-6 years at way too high of a rate. This team is right on the cusp of being "good enough", a move like Fowler & a SP, etc would still get them there, IMO.
  15. I think the writing is on the walls at this point. Simply put, the White Sox aren't getting Cespedes. This would be a very good time to come to terms with that & hope they find a way to improve the OF & maybe the back end of the rotation.
  16. QUOTE (SouthSideSale @ Jan 21, 2016 -> 09:19 PM) Well then maybe they're doing this for PR. I don't know what to think anymore. I've been confident the entire time but this is just bizarre. Yeah... I'm really starting to just not care anymore. This entire Cespedes thing has been a s*** show. I'll give the Sox some time to make another move before I get too upset but can't say I have too much confident in them doing much else to improve this team before ST.
  17. QUOTE (SouthSideSale @ Jan 21, 2016 -> 09:08 PM) For a team that's a finalist, the Sox are very very quiet. Nothing about them at all. I really just don't they are as involved as we all thought. I won't lie, I got caught up in the silence for a bit but even guys like Phil Rodgers don't think they are in on him much anymore.
  18. I know this move was lost in the shuffle of CesPAYdeezNUTS but this was actually a very nice move, especially for the price. Bullpen in very good shape.
  19. I've been out most of the afternoon. Have I missed anything or still the same?
  20. QUOTE (Y2JImmy0 @ Jan 21, 2016 -> 12:13 PM) Not sure the Sox were ever guaranteeing 5 years though. I'm going to see what his contract looks like before I start speaking in absolutes about anything. Why would they ever think it would be less? 6 years is one thing but 4-5 years you do it, IMO. It was never realistic to expect him to take anything less than 4 at minimum.
  21. QUOTE (Jose Abreu @ Jan 21, 2016 -> 12:12 PM) Like some poster here said, we took a road trip and stopped 3/4 of the way there. Typical White Sox. They wonder why their attendance numbers dwindle each year & it's because of this type of stuff. Let your division rivals get better & not complete the plan.
  22. That whole waiting out the OF thing worked out pretty well for the Sox... Gordon back to KC, Upton to Det, etc. Can't say I'm surprised because this organization is a s*** show sometimes but still pretty disappointed.
  23. QUOTE (blackmooncreeping @ Jan 21, 2016 -> 08:32 AM) That's a ridiculous response. There is no deal yet, somehow I'm in denial? It's a story when it breaks... Funny because if this were the Sox with these signs, you would be declaring him a done deal.
  24. QUOTE (blackmooncreeping @ Jan 21, 2016 -> 08:31 AM) Someone said Nightengale said the Nats offer was the best on the table. Maybe it's the only one on the table, maybe it's the best at the moment, etc... You're in denial my friend.
  25. QUOTE (staxx @ Jan 21, 2016 -> 08:26 AM) I don't see anywhere on Nightengale's twitter where he says the Nat's offer is the "strongest". Maybe im missing something MLB Network.
