QUOTE (blackmooncreeping @ Jan 21, 2016 -> 08:23 AM) What media reports? I've heard conflicting reports since late last night... Rosenthal, Nightengale, & now Mirosi.
-
Keep in mind, the report from the Mets guy about the Nats offer not being good is probably BS. The kid is like 12 & has bought 85-90% of his followers. His tweet got no real play either. Very telling. I'd put much more stock into Nightengale & the Nats guy saying their offer was substantial.

QUOTE (shipps @ Jan 21, 2016 -> 08:12 AM) I think the really depressing part of it is the fact that from the start the Sox were widely considered to be one of the favorites to land one of the big 3. The fans put a lot of stock in that and followed these stories extremely closely just to wind up with none of them in the end. It may wind up being a HUGE PR hit on the Sox whether its warranted or not. And it should be. This team is stuck in the middle & makes two makes that tells fans they are going for it & then won't pony up for a game changer like Cespedes. Makes no real sense.
-
Mirosi RT'd Rosenthal's Nationals/Cespedes tweet from last night just now. Could be nothing but sure seems like the national media is starting to push this.
-
In terms of media reports, all signs point to the Nationals wrapping this up soon. We'll see.

QUOTE (blackmooncreeping @ Jan 20, 2016 -> 09:39 PM) Finalist yes, but I don't think the offer was reported until this evening...? The Sox making an offer to him wasn't publicized until about a week & a half after it happened. Can't rely on the beats to paint an exact timeline with the info they release. I would fully assume that each team that is a "finalist" is because they made somewhat intruiging offers & Cespedes deems them as serious/viable candidates.
-
QUOTE (blackmooncreeping @ Jan 20, 2016 -> 09:29 PM) And might be in the process of doing so, sounds like it was offered late in the day They were listed as a finalist for him this morning. This offer is nothing new. Rosenthal has deadlines to meet & what better way to do that than to write a piece that not many have touched on? Way too much assumption & panic goes into people's thought process when they see other teams interested or talked about.

QUOTE (peavy44 @ Jan 20, 2016 -> 09:06 PM) Nats made a offer to cespedes I bet its in the 5 year range. If that was the case, he would be signed.
-
QUOTE (Jose Abreu @ Jan 20, 2016 -> 10:51 AM) I'm still very enthused by the tweets from the CSN cameraman (maybe) and raBBit. The CSN Camera guy worded his tweet poorly. He was reading the same BS from people with 15 followers as we were.
-
raBBit's source(s) cutting him off means that they are in the thick of things. That can really only be taken as a good thing at this point.

QUOTE (Dick Allen @ Jan 20, 2016 -> 09:28 AM) About the same as that guy who said it was a 6 year contract a couple weeks back. Then said the issue was the Sox would only go 5. What I find weird is he was tweeting about Cespedes and the Sox being a match on a 3-4 year deal with an opt out 4 days ago. Now Bowden says Cespedes is close & the Sox are a finalist & he tweets it's done. I could be 100% wrong but seems like a complete guess with the pieces that the media has given everyone.
-
y'all are killing me. Lets stop posting tweets from random people breaking stuff that we all know are trolling/guessing.
-
Steve Adams also responded to a question about the Sox signing both Fowler & Desmond (Obviously very unlikely on many fronts): "On paper it makes sense, but I don't envision the Sox punting two draft picks at this stage. If both guys were going to take disappointing contracts, maybe, but I don't find that likely. Sox are the best fit on the board for Desmond at this point, though."
-
Steve Adams of MLB Trade Rumors still thinks that Cespedes is going to "clear" 6 years & $130M. I can't see that happening.

QUOTE (fathom @ Jan 19, 2016 -> 12:04 PM) Nightengale's most recent article didn't list the Sox as one of the teams most interested in Upton https://t.co/UiiihkzkNJ This article sure makes it sound like they were. "Upton also was pursued by the Chicago White Sox, Texas Rangers and Houston Astros, but those teams preferred signing him to a short-term deal."
-
Something weird is up, IMO. The Sox have been cold calling people (not just fans) yesterday & today asking them if they plan to attend Sox games this year. I could be wrong but that doesn't seem like a normal thing to do. MLB Network keeps bringing up the Sox name when talking about Cespedes & today, Nightengale reported in his journal thing that the Sox had been in on Upton before he signed with the Tigers. Most teams are throwing low year offers at this point. At some point soon, a team may offer 4-5 years & he'll probably take it.
-
Have seen a few people today on twitter that have said the Sox have called them asking them if they are going to games this year. Most have never even be to a Sox game & are Cubs fans. Seems weird to me.
-
QUOTE (hi8is @ Jan 19, 2016 -> 10:12 AM) Nightnegale Makes you wonder what they are truly willing to do with Cespedes. 4 years seem logical.
-
Looks like all teams interest in Cespedes only want him on a short deal. The first team to 5 gets him, IMO. I think if this drags out much longer, a 4 year guarantee & a 5th year option might work as well.
-
Now the #Marlins are in the Cespedes sweepstakes. What are they doing? Lol

QUOTE (Y2JImmy0 @ Jan 19, 2016 -> 08:50 AM) Did they ever say anything about going "all in" though? Hahn mentioned that it's likely that they'd be adding an OF and that they weren't satisfied with the offense yet. It was also reported that the White Sox would be interested in the OF's on their terms. Then all of a sudden, fans started assuming that they'd be handing out 5-6 contracts which is just not happening. If Cespedes takes a 4 year deal, I think the White Sox are in this. If het gets 5-6, they won't be and they will move on to other options. Why else do you trade for two players with two years of control?
-
QUOTE (LDF @ Jan 19, 2016 -> 08:43 AM) now watch out, you are now sounding a lot like me, esp in some of my last yrs post. i will admit this. i am indifferent b/c i am not sold on him. i do not know why, that is why will defer to the sox FO. i am guilty of my opinion on this one. If this were a different situation I would be more patient but they've botched a rebuild, traded 3 top 10 prospects for 2 players with 2 years of control & now are watching teams in their own division get better. They've made the commitment to go "all in", so they need to carry it out. That's my mindset.

QUOTE (pittshoganerkoff @ Jan 19, 2016 -> 08:39 AM) I would think so, but that all depends on what other teams may offer. There are fewer teams now, and I think it could be down to the Mets and Sox. However, who knows. How do we know there are fewer teams? Every time we think this, more teams show up. KC was done with Gordon, Det was too broke to get Cespedes, Miami wasn't supposed to get Chen, Col already had 3 OF'ers & still signed Parra. At this point, narrowing it down to a few teams has proved to be pretty off. Right now, we need to assume the Sox are one of 5-10 teams on him, whether it's logical or not.

QUOTE (Baron @ Jan 19, 2016 -> 08:40 AM) He's copying that Mets blog clearly. Are we going to start posting incarceratedbobs reports on here too? It's been done a few times, actually
-
Make no mistake, Cespedes makes this team better by a good amount. I would say this is as close to a "must sign" as possible. So what if they overpay for him a bit? They have cost controlled pitched & have great deals on Eaton & Abreu as well. Just make it happen.
