  1. The Sox NEED to sign Moncada...he's a perfect fit!
  2. QUOTE (StRoostifer @ Feb 6, 2015 -> 11:59 AM) Yeah, that certainly helps. There's a number of players throughout baseball history that struck out a lot and were still very productive run producers. I'm just saying that just because a team strikes out a lot does not mean they will not score enough runs to win games. I'm not "big" on the new metrics, but, isn't there something about "productive" vs "non-productive" outs? Obviously, you're better off having a guy sacrifice himself to get a batter into scoring position than him striking out. IMO, all outs are not the same.
  3. QUOTE (StRoostifer @ Feb 5, 2015 -> 10:38 PM) So then you're really not all that confident in your statements about the cubs 2015 record... I don't take chances when it comes to the possibility of "wearing" Cubs gear. Besides, if I agreed to your wager, you'd have to be rooting for the Cubs. You don't want to do that, do you?
  4. QUOTE (CaliSoxFanViaSWside @ Feb 5, 2015 -> 07:31 PM) Lttle ditty bout" Jackin' Dayan , a Cuban kid playin' ball in the heartland. Dayan's gonna be a baseball star. Wait, no ,Dayan ,he ain't goin' far. Well played!
  5. QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Feb 5, 2015 -> 03:58 PM) I smell a signature bet. Loser should sport a Cubs logo for a period of time. I can't do that, I'd rather wear a dress than anything Cubzzz related.
  6. QUOTE (witesoxfan @ Feb 5, 2015 -> 10:49 AM) I think they'll be in playoff contention. They'll fall short, but it will be a really nice building year for them. They won't finish .500!
  7. QUOTE (StRoostifer @ Feb 5, 2015 -> 12:03 PM) No, its people giving some credit where its due. The Cubs DO have plenty of young talent and they have Lester/ Arrieta at the front of their rotation which, for the cubs, is a good place to start considering where they are coming from. I dislike the cubs as much as anyone but a front three of Lester, Shields and Arrieta is pretty formidable and especially in the NL. I agree they have question marks but to proclaim "book this...they will NOT win 75 games this season" is juuuust a bit premature since the off season is not over and their young talent has yet to show what they can do in 2015. All youre doing is displaying your blind hatered and, should the cubs perform better than you expect, setting yourself up for backlash with your proclamation should the cubs win more than 75 games. Personally, I can give a toss what the cubs do but since this thread is about Shields and the cubs are supposedly in on him, expect some comments about the possibility. Were all here to discuss some baseball. The Cubs will lead MLB in striking out next year. They have a lot of "free swingers" on that team. IMO, teams that don't make a lot of contact, don't win consistently. BTW, I also think that their bullpen is WAYYY overrated.
  8. QUOTE (Chilihead90 @ Feb 5, 2015 -> 02:39 PM) That is one of my pet peeves this offseason when I see anyone make a list of all the things the Cubs added that will make them better in 2015, and I see Jason Hammel included. He was ON the Cubs last season. He pitched 108 innings for them. He already contributed, and quite highly, to their 73 wins. I don't really considering that as a reason why they will be better in 2015 because it was an asset that already figured in to 2014. It's just one of the things that bugs me when I see "Their rotation is much improved, they added Lester and Hammel to go along with Arrieta!", ehhh, not really. I agree with you 100%.
  9. QUOTE (witesoxfan @ Feb 5, 2015 -> 10:45 AM) At the same time, all of those good players in the majors were prospects once too. Some of their top guys will flame out, but it's OK to say that the Cubs have a very good minor league system and it should translate to the MLB level to some degree. Those that are "putting then" in the WS, or even playoff contention tis year are insane.
  10. QUOTE (farmteam @ Feb 3, 2015 -> 04:16 PM) You guys are majorly underestimating Schwarber. Kid has a better-than-usual chance of being a 30+ HR hitter. Remember Felix Pie? Jerome Walton? Gary Scott? Prospects are just prospects, until they're proven commodities. Baseball history is chock-full with sensational "AAAA-players"; too good for AAA, not good enough for MLB.
  11. QUOTE (StRoostifer @ Feb 4, 2015 -> 11:21 PM) Lester, Shields, Arrieta would make a pretty formidable 1-3 in the cub rotation. Do the cubs have the money for Shields? There is WAY too much Cubs love on this site. Book this...they will NOT win 75 games this season. Too many question marks.
  12. QUOTE (woods of ypres @ Feb 4, 2015 -> 12:19 PM) I'm not a huge fan of their work, but I think Avenged Sevenfold's Hail to the King could be a decent replacement. OT: If the Hawks ever drop Chelsea Dagger, I hope their next goal song is the Terran Theme from the original Starcraft. I HATE Chelsea Dagger
  13. He'd rake in Wrigley against NL pitching.
  14. I'm curious, for all you AC/DC haters, what would you rather hear than AC/DC? ©rap "music"? Hip hop? Pop?
  15. QUOTE (flavum @ Feb 2, 2015 -> 12:46 PM) I'd lose that first thing, but that's me. No, no, no! AC/DC rulz!
