  1. Some of the guys who failed miserably have already been dealt, and there will be a lot more changes. I don't see how JR (and KW if he does not retire) allow Hahn,  Katz and Grifol to be brought back. Wayy too many bad decisions and a lot of inaction at critical times in the season. Meanwhile, Bummer still issuing lead-off walks in late innings and then allowing that guy to steal second ?  Bummer is only pitching now to prove he might have some trade value and that is not looking good. He can't throw strikes to a lead-off hitter late in a game so what the hell good is he as a leverage bullpen arm?

I resent the implication that anyone who doesn't support TA in this is automatically a racist.

Of course not everyone is a racist but you cannot deny how remnants of it remain in baseball decades after Jackie Robinson,  even among players like Josh Donaldson and announcers like Hamilton.

As far as who instigated the fight that is arguable. Do you defend Ramirez for his post game comments that TA has been disrespecting baseball for a long time ? That was basically an admission that he was  holding a grudge against Anderson. And do you think that Hamilton announcing "Down goes Anderson, down goes Anderson" was appropriate? This stuff is part of baseball...it is unfortunate but it still exists. TA should have been the bigger man , walked away, but it would have been nice if Ramirez got taken down by Vaughn  and others before the fight ensued.

  3. The perception of TA is what I was referring to. The denial that racist views are part of the reactions to  TA impress me about as much as Josh Donaldson calling TA "Jackie" and then denying he is a racist. Down goes Anderson, down goes Anderson... then getting dragged off by Vaughn. That was just too perfect of a scenario for some people, but go ahead and enjoy. Yea, he deserved it and that trumps team loyalty and even results in TA getting twice the penalty that the instigator received, even though he brushed back an umpire.

As far as minority vs minority, some here may recall how a lot of people hated Ali (referencing  "down goes Anderson" by Cosell even though it was Joe Frazier...) and wanted him to get beaten, even when he fought other African Americans like Frazier. There was just something about him they didn't like, and sure, OK, it had nothing to do with race. Give me a break.

  4. There is a lot of bias toward TA. There can be no doubt that some of it is due to the fact that he is an African American player...a group that did not have one player in the MLB until Jackie Robinson came up with the Dodgers. That group is still under-represented in the league.  It is interesting to note how some perceived this fight from who they think started it to how they characterize  AV for  dragging TA off.

  5. Other than in NHL games, I have seldom seen teams in any sport  back off and let two players go mono y mono. In this fight even the umpire allowed Ramirez to clear him out with one hand and that move did not result in any additional suspension. Forget this fight for a second, and ask yourself if MLB should allow itself to go down the same rabbit hole as the NHL with fighting and for that matter, what should be the policy of teams when a player gets into a fight? Let him alone or have his back and defend him ?

The thing is Katz isn't in the bullpen during games, The name omitting for Middleton is so petty.

Katz is responsible for the behavior and performance of pitchers in the bullpen. And beyond that, he is responsible for the failure of high priced relievers who came in when the Sox had late leads and walked guys to lead off innings. Then there is the failure of some pitchers to hold batters on first after they gave them a free pass. We all watched the games and saw this too often. It was literally self defeating and is likely one of the causes for the frustration that led to bitterness and  the circular firing squad that subsequently formed.

There really aren’t many options, and they need to pump up somebody in a desperate attempt to keep fans interested.

And I don’t like to point to race in most cases, but this is also a race-based move. Basically every white guy I know that cares about the Sox at all (a shallow pool to be sure) has a giant hard-on for Vaughn. I believe it’s the perception that he’s a humble, quiet, and hardworking player. Those things may even be true, but he’s not a very good player.

No question about that. It doesn't mean that AV is not good, but he is has become the prototype for what some fans want to see in their hero. I like players who enjoy playing the game and despite ups and downs in their careers, always try their best to entertain fans.  I would include AV, Liam Hendriks, and Eloy Jimenez in that group. I think TA is somewhat different in that he could use some support from fans now while he has experienced some  trying times. He could also use some support from players, support that he did not get during that fight. Picking him up and dragging him away only made things look worse for TA.  Maybe the Sox need to start a fight with Cleveland and win it. Throw a brush back pitch to get that going next series with the Guardos. Have some balls and stand by your teammate.

  8. Hahn invited KW or JR to fire him and suggested he might resign. Hahn is a lame duck. The only reason he is still there is that JR needs some time to interview candidates for GM and KW's position as well. Also JR may want his son Michael and other family members and business partners to get involved in that firing/hiring process.

Hahn over-promised/under-delivered in a very tough and competitive sports business environment.  We all knew it was BS when he said it ...multiple championships?  Never promise that which you cannot deliver. There is a thin line between confidence and over-confidence and that line is often coated with bravado and bullshit.

  9. Ramirez did not take off the gloves for this fight. He connected with TA on a wild swing as he was being dragged down himself. You can do a lot more damage by hitting someone with gloves on rather than bare-fisted and I bet that was the case. Tim meanwhile hit the back of his head with bare knuckles. His hands probably got injured from that.

Ramirez comments that TA "does not respect the game" as translated, were way out of line. As the video show, Ramirez was tagged out and decided to point his glove right in Tim's face. There are a lot of players that respect the game that would take that as a challenge to fight and Ramirez knew that when he did it.

Ideally, TA should have walked away from the in your face challenge but then I suppose he may have been criticized for backing down. For those who don't like the man for whatever reason, there is nothing he could have done right.

  10. ""the yuppification of the West Loop is extending out and this is for speculation purposes or to turn it into a planned development. He bought another lot near here too last year. Probably more. Note that this is happening near the UC and not near Comiskey."

The Halsted corridor from UIC to 35th has a lot prime rehabs and upscale townhones.

There is very little real estate development value around the ballpark which suggests that there won't ever be a new Sox ballpark.
