Leather gloves protect the hands which is why tradesmen and other wear them. The leather glove in itself does not hurt you, but it provides onfidence to strike harder without fear of injuring ones knuckles and hands.
Anyway. I guess there goes the understanding of the oft-used expression "he' taking the gloves off" before a (fair) fight. Wow....unbelievable...

Maybe Bennetti should announce fights.

Batting gloves would not cause more damage lol
Wow you really know how to spin things and react . One can swing harder without concern about breaking bones in their hands. This elementary fact was discerned when professional boxers started using boxing gloves around the time when Gentlemen Jim fought bare knuckled.

Tom Hamilton, announcer for the Guards, shouted "Down goes Anderson, Down goes Anderson" making a joke out of this. That was inappropriate as are any comments that could be taken the wrong way by younger kids who watch baseball. Maybe he should explain why he thought that was funny.

Ramirez did not take off the gloves for this fight. He connected with TA on a wild swing as he was being dragged down himself. You can do a lot more damage by hitting someone with gloves on rather than bare-fisted and I bet that was the case. Tim meanwhile hit the back of his head with bare knuckles. His hands probably got injured from that.
Ramirez comments that TA "does not respect the game" as translated, were way out of line. As the video show, Ramirez was tagged out and decided to point his glove right in Tim's face. There are a lot of players that respect the game that would take that as a challenge to fight and Ramirez knew that when he did it.
Ideally, TA should have walked away from the in your face challenge but then I suppose he may have been criticized for backing down. For those who don't like the man for whatever reason, there is nothing he could have done right.

""the yuppification of the West Loop is extending out and this is for speculation purposes or to turn it into a planned development. He bought another lot near here too last year. Probably more. Note that this is happening near the UC and not near Comiskey."
The Halsted corridor from UIC to 35th has a lot prime rehabs and upscale townhones.

"But Lynn was dealt to the Dodgers, and conversations shifted to Burger, who has displayed significant power but uneven bat-to-ball skills."

Like I said, the Marlins wanted Burger. They drove the deal. Hahn was looking for a cheap way to fill up the giant holes in the pitching staff on the cheap and he could not resist this. What a fool.

Eder like Crochet remains a largely unproven entity that could end up with with another arm injury. This trade was obviously one that the Marlins pushed over on Hahn. He got taken. Marlins sought Burger for HR power. Hahn was not looking for Eder, just a cheap way to fill deep holes in the pitching staff. So tired of Hahn getting fleeced.

All other things being about equal in terms of W/L, home runs absolutely add to fan interest and draw fans into the park. '77 SS Hitmen were a good example as well as the '83 Sox with Fisk, Luzinski, and Kittle. People who were around back in those ancient times still fondly remember those teams, roof shots at the old park, etc.
No way I trade Burger for an arm. Another thing about Burger. Unlike AV who is station to station when he gets on base, Burger and Eloy have some speed and can leg out some doubles. I don't know if anyone else noticed but AV looks like he boxed out a bit, especially from the waist down and he seems to be wearing a bigger shoe size.

Eloy already accepted being a DH with only occasional stints in RF . Burger was fine at 3rd base. We need HRs from players like that to win. We need more players that play the game with the joy that they bring on the field and in the clubhouse and of course the excitement of having a potential HR every time they step up to the plate. All of the emphasis on having multiple Closers, set-up men, and veteran starters ended up being a lost cause.

I am going to say this but I don't believe Burger is a good offensive player.
Could the Marlins fix his approach at the plate and he develop into one of course there are scattered stories of guys like Jose Bautista figuring it out in their latter half of their careers.
But Burger will be 28 next year. There is a much better chance the player we have saw this year with the exception of a handful of games is who he is with the exception of his ISO which is going to come back down to earth.
And when it does he figures to fall into that .725 ish to .750 ish OPS range. What is that worth to you as a 1B/DH? If he could play 3B at a high level it would be another story because you could live with his all or nothing approach but when it comes to 1B/DH its not hard to find .750+ OPS guys. It may have been hard over the years for us but the average ops for a first baseman right now is .711 OPS for a DH is .742.
Lets talk a year from now because if Burger is still having a .800+ OPS not getting on base, not hitting for an average and has a .300+ ISO if I'm still around I'll send a picture of me eating my hat.
Generally, I see advanced stats as a potential problem withe talent evaluation and player/roster decision making. Burger lights up the crowd and draws fans to the park with 450 ft. bombs. Where is that in the advanced stats?
For me the Burger decision should have been simple. He earned the 3rd base job so put him there and move Moncada to second. Don't remove an asset that you can't easily replace. I would say the same thing with Eloy. No reason to trade a guy that hits for average and has his power potential. Oh, he had 19 injuries..including surgery for appendicitis, elebrating after a game, and extending his hand over the fence to catch a home run ball. Eloy will be less susceptible to injury as a DH so you keep him unless you want a lineup that is really strapped for power and is unexciting for fans. In short, the trade game has to look at things beyond player stats in order to end up with a team that is good and exciting for fans to watch.

This was the most foolish Hahn trade and there have been some boners. As someone said, Sox should have simply made Moncada shift to second base and let Burger play third. Jake earned the starting 3rd base job and this is the reward he gets for it ?
Jake's quick, sweeping home run swing, the bombs he hit, and his joy for the game will be missed. You can't trade that away for a pitcher. Hahn lost his mind.

Sox brass lack talent evaluation skills and common sense. That is why they traded Jake. What a bunch if streunses.

I watched the games and that is what I saw...late inning leads that the bullpen could not hold.

Sox are way down in the standings but many of the losses this season were due to very poor relief performances, especially when the Sox were ahead in middle to late innings. Plus we had no Closer and our set-up guys set up the other team with lead-off walks....No lead was ever safe. Bummer was famous for that.
You don't need to blow up the entire team. Get a Closer and some reliable set-up guys. You can win some games with a mediocre starting rotation and a Manager that knows when to deploy a decent bullpen. Bullpen was bad but Grifol and Katz should have emphasized throwing strikes to get ahead instead of walking the tying run late in the game. And then there was the failure to hold men on base. A walk quickly became a double.

Many if not most of the close games we lost were due to bullpen failure in later innings. Glad to see the bullpen guys go and maybe Grifol and Katz should follow them out the door.

In any event, the White Sox have already wasted four years of his and Kopech’s development to satisfy Tony La Russia’s bullpen fetishes.

Pressure is off so now so it is time to relax, hit the baseball hard, and yes, play the role of spoiler...maybe even nab a game or two against the cubs at wrigly as well.
I want to see Burger, Eloy and Robert blast a few more bombs this year.

Bob Nightengale via Twitter:"The White Sox certainly could be major players in free agency this winter after shedding about $25 million in their three trades.Catcher Yasmani Grandal's $18.25 million salary is also coming off the books after the season."-----------------------That is starting to look like it may be their plan.

Burger HAS to stay in the line-up. This guy can hit 40 HR .
-
I would rather have included Grandal with Gio (instead of ReyLo) in exchange for Logan O'Hoppe .
In short, get one player that you are confident can play at the major league level. Also try to lose Grandals contract, even if you have to eat part of it.
ReyLo is valuable to clean up losses the rest of the season or to become part of another trade. Now his chip, however small, is off the table.
