Potential + Effects of the World Series?
QUOTE (Lip Man 1 @ Nov 3, 2016 -> 08:54 AM) From what I read it is much more if the original owner sells as opposed to passing away. Could have mis read it though. Mark ^ That's true. When you inherit an asset with potential capital gains tax, the tax base is generally 'stepped up' to fair market value. So basically his heir likely wouldn't have to pay capital gains tax unless he/she held onto the team and it continued to appreciate. Source: I'm a third year law student...never thought I'd need to apply anything I've learned to the Sox

Price rising for Sale and Q
QUOTE (dpd9189 @ Oct 12, 2016 -> 06:10 PM) Of teams that I would consider "contending" teams or teams that should be pretty competitive: NYY, HOU, CHC, PIT, LAD, WSH, BOS, TEX, STL. Teams like STL and Pitt feeling pressure from the Cubs feels like a great match. Plus they'd both truly value Sale/Q's contract (unlike say Boston/Texas, with less financial constraints), and have a wealth of young talent.

8/29 Games
QUOTE (Dunt @ Aug 29, 2016 -> 08:04 PM) Adams with great stuff tonight. Very encouraging to see. You mean good raw stuff or were you just looking at the line? If his stuff has bounced back a bit it would be huge.

Bernstein: Sources say White Sox might be for sale
QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Aug 11, 2016 -> 05:37 PM) 2006 called. They want their stereotypes back. That's not a stereotype. It's a fact that the stadium is in an brutal area for selling tickets. Literally nothing adjacent to the stadium to draw people in.

Any chance Call gets called up to WS this year, or is that too aggressive? Stephens looking in like for a promotions soon as well.

It's that time of year again...2016 edition
QUOTE (bigruss22 @ Aug 3, 2016 -> 04:41 PM) Oh hey, evidence. And more! So yes, the data supports the model. If you want better players, get better draft position. Is it a guarantee? Nope, still lots of variables, but it gives you the best chance. Yeah if the "rooting to lose is stupid" crowd wants a recent example, look at last year. The sox were reportedly prepared to take Benitendi before the Red Sox took him, 1 slot earlier. Having more choices is never a bad thing, even if you generally suck at making them count.

Reasonable Waiver Trade Cadidates
QUOTE (Black_Jack29 @ Aug 2, 2016 -> 08:40 PM) I don't think that the Sox will get anything of value in return for Morneau, and he doesn't make enough money for a salary-dump. If anything, they might want to consider offering him a contract extension on the cheap. I'd like him at DH more than Avi. Yeah I don't see him clearing either - but the Sox have some leverage over claiming teams, because they have no real incentive to just give him away. So if he hits well this month I don't think it's impossible that he returns a decent prospect. In some ways he could actually be more valuable than most available bats, as he's basically riskless money-wise.

Reasonable Waiver Trade Cadidates
Alright, so after that absolute train wreck of a trade deadline, I'm praying that the Front Office at least seizes on the opportunity to explore some waiver trade talks. The most likely candidates to pass through waivers, based on inflated salaries: Robertson (could certainly be claimed by a contender) Melky (the most likely to get claimed, as he's only got a year left on his salary and is productive) Shields (least likely to be claimed, based on his peripherals, even as he's pitched better) The next batch of guys that probably won't pass through waivers, but could potentially be dealt if claimed. These guys would require solid returns: Frazier Abreu Miggy Gonzalez Lawrie The "who knows" category - guys that could have value to some teams based on injuries or unforeseen circumstances: AJax Jennings Morneau
