One of the other catchers on the roster is freshman Patrick Bailey. I have no idea how his defense is, but just look at his numbers as a freshman, they are pretty great. http://www.thebaseballcube.com/players/profile.asp?ID=210201

Why do the Sox not have a SS A-ball club?
GenericUserName replied to ChiSox59's topic in FutureSox Board
I did some breakdown of this a while back because I also found this interesting. If you look at the lowest levels of the minors (short season A, rookie league, complex, DSL) the Sox are one of 12 organizations with only 3 of those teams with two more teams sharing one, so they basically have 3.5 teams. 11 organizations have 4 teams between these 4 levels, though some have two at one and none at another. The Yankees, Rays, Astros, Mets and Diamondbacks have five teams between these four levels, so two at one level with all of those being either an extra complex team or DSL team. However when you just look at short season A ball and rookie leagues (which seems mostly equivalent), only 9 organizations have a team at both the short season level and rookie league level, though the Royals (not counted in the nine) do have two rookie league level teams and no short season team while the Rockies (counted in the nine) have one team at the short season and rookie league levels but do not have a complex team. TL;DR: Only about 1/3 organizations have both a short season team and a rookie league team, though more than half the league does have at least 4 teams between the lowest four levels while the Sox only have 3. So I would like to see us add one more team between the lowest four levels, though it does not necessarily need to be a short season A ball team. -

It could just be that its an above slot deal and they don't want to officially sign until Madrigal signs so they know exactly how much they have left in the pool. If for some reason they don't sign Madrigal, you don't want the team stuck with several above slot deals that would cause us to lose picks in the next draft. -
So after they clinch the playoffs & have the all star games when there will be a wave of promotions

CWS Games of Drafted Prospects
GenericUserName replied to GenericUserName's topic in FutureSox Board
He was at 64 pitches and just gave up a double, so they pulled him. It's an elimination game so they basically were planning on pulling him at the first sign of trouble and bullpenning it from there. The reliever promptly gave up a hit which scored the runner, so maybe not the best strategy. -
He has a couple starts in extended spring training so its not like they are throwing him out there without getting back up to speed.

How eventful will be this years deadline?
GenericUserName replied to wrathofhahn's topic in Pale Hose Talk
I think trade deadline next year is about the right time. It would give teams more than a year of him being healthy to see, it might be the best point of maximizing remaining time of control while also showing his talent, and it will be at a point of the rebuild where we can still make trades that help the future even if it slightly hurts the present. To me, if it doesn't happen at the trade deadline next year, it won't happen at all. -

It looks like Carranza is going to sign Also Davis Martin is still in the college playoffs, but it looks good for him signing because he has the tweet about being drafted pinned. Along those same lines of probably not enough to confirm, but at least there being an indication is Ryan Fitzpatrick who only has 23 tweets but 3 of them are related to being drafted by the Sox. Also, Kelvin Maldonado has a pic of him in Sox gear on his instagram. Finally, Bryce Bush probably isn't signing considering it looks like he subtweeted about his being pick with a tweet just saying "lol". So not only are we probably not signing him, you can probably count out a redraft too. I would think all of the HS guys from 33 to 40 aren't going to sign just from general patterns and checking their social media. -

Do we have reading from anyone at the game because a lot, if not most, of the other guys pitching were throwing harder than the tv radar guns said. I know Logan Gilbert has like 3 mph slower on tv than people at the game had him. -

Yeah, they said later that you can't challenge safe/out calls except for plays at the plate, so that explains why they didn't challenge it. -

Madrigal just about beat out a weak grounder to second and on the replayed it looks like he did beat it, but they didn't review it. -

FanGraphs just put up an odds and ends article that had notes on who will be going or going back to college as well as preliminary notes on the top guys in the 2019, 2020, and 2021 draft classes. Here is the write up for 2019:

I think he could be a sneaky good signing. He batted leadoff for most of the year and appears to be athletic enough to be a utility player when he isn't catching. He also has a weird swing that could probably be ironed out so he can drive the ball a little more. -

Yeah, that's why I put all the games. Even the Pilkington announcement was just the coach saying he was switching it up, so he could pitch game one. -

He had his best power numbers this year but most of it came before the injuries. I believe he had 2 homeruns in the 6 games he played before getting injured. That's like the epitome of SSS, but it could be something that we look back on as an indication that he had added more power and we just missed it. -
So there are 5 players on 5 different teams still playing in the college baseball playoffs. I thought we should get a thread of game times and viewing information so its all in one place for anyone who wants to watch and discuss the newest Sox prospects. Yeah, I think that consensus remark was around the same time as the scouts one and that really made it seem like it was not a member of the scouting department that was the major dissenting opinion.
