Injury Thread

Featured Replies

Posted this in the MLB Catch-all thread but figured I could ask there. I've been dealing with a knee injury for a few months. Whenever I sit, stand still, or lay down too long (even sleeping), my knee stiffens and thigh hurt. I think I hyper-extended it in February. When I walk, occasionally, there is a pop in my knee. My buddy has had a torn ACL in his life and thinks that it could be that. What do you guys think? Also really want to know since I'm playing in a baseball league this summer and I catch (yeah, it's awful for the week leading up to the next game). I just don't want to do any more damage to it and figuring out what I should do.

I'd go see a physical therapist.

I'd echo this. Most PT places have free injury screens. I would make an appointment for the free screen and have a professional look at it and give you their thoughts. If it is something like a torn ACL, the PT would recommend you seeing a doctor. If it's less serious, they probably can give you some exercises/stretches or offer you some treatment.

I've had a torn labrum in college (5 years ago) in my throwing shoulder and now i'm feeling really bad pain in my other shoulder. I think I did it couple weeks ago swinging a bat and just felt something pop/move in my shoulder (also play in a men's baseball league) When I reach across my body and come back I feel pain and when I wash my back, sometimes my shoulder clicks.

I'm a GA at school and saw the trainer, she said I have the tightest shoulder she's ever seen and a rotator cuff impingement. It's getting to the point it's waking me up in the middle of the night.

Ah yes, knee injuries, something i know quite a bit about.

Its probably not a torn ACL, you would most likely know that. Go to an ortho doctor, get it looked at (xray, MRI). If nothing is torn (hopefully) you will probably have to do some PT. DONT go to an athletico, research ones around you. My knees didnt get better until I went to a smaller and more attentive place, and today its all about flexibility and the strength of the muscles around my knee. I am now back running long distances when before I couldnt go down stairs.

Good luck, knees are tricky but dont let it linger. My right knee clicks all the time, but at least it doesnt hurt.

My right knee is pretty much cartilage-free. I get clicks, knee locking up, can't walk for longer than 4 or 5 minutes, excercise is painful and I do stairs like a kid, either one at a time or leaning heavily on the arm rail. Get it looked at and do what they say. Had been getting drained and cortisone shots, but those went from working about 3 months to about 3 weeks. Got some sort of gel shot this last time and am on a little over 2 months now. Feels tons better, can actually do stairs (slowly) but still can't walk much.

Got a replacement in your future huh?

I have zero cartilage under my left kneecap and it locks so I have to wear a strap. Its fine for now but the doc says the wear and tear will ruin it eventually.

Yes. The doctor keeps aaying I am 'too young to get it now' so that is why we tried this gel shot. While it is nice, i still can't do a lot of things. So yes, replacement is in the future. I have had 4 surgeries on that knee in my 50 years, when that happens, hopefully it will be the last.

Our bodies give us a one time installment of cartilage, no refunds no replacements(naturally, so far)

My left knee clicks but I think I have a little while before it is a serious issue. Fingers crossed

Finally went to the doctor. He recommended I get an MRI and that it is my biceps tendon and might be partially torn. Hopefully it isn't.
