October 8, 20178 yr That was good, Mark. I remember Landis so well in 1959. He started the season batting eighth, and after a month or so he started to hit a little bit and they moved him up a notch. At the end of the season, he was hitting third and was probably the best player on that team in second half. Lots of clutch hits late in games. I also remember a diving catch he made vs KC with two outs in 9th and bases loaded. Dick Williams hit it. RIP.
October 9, 20178 yr How many of the '59 Sox are still around? I knew Aparicio, and looks like Rivera and Al Smith are still alive as well. I figured Lip would know this offhand.

Alive as far as I can tell- Luis Aparicio Jim Rivera Johnny Romano Sammy Esposito Lou Skizas Joe Hicks JC Martin Barry Latman Ken McBride Rudy Arias Joe Stanka Gary Peters Claude Raymond 13 alive. 27 dead.
