If the guy sucks at his job (or has done something to really deserve to be fired), then he should get canned PERIOD. We don't know the whole story here.

 

That being said, the timing of this makes it a PR disaster... worse than when John Paxson fired Scott Skiles on Christmas Eve.

This is what happens when someone who was a ballplayer attempts running a big, complex business. It's not even about smarts - it is the total lack of experience on the business side. And Jeter kinda refused to surround himself with close advisors who would know, just making it worse.

 

I highly doubt Jeter even knew. He just hasn't set up a management structure capable of giving him the right info, because he doesn't even know what that is yet.

 

Reading the article, it sounds like to me the guy's contract was not renewed, not terminated. So the poor guy was probably a casualty of the ownership wanting to revamp the operations staff.
