Catching prospects

Featured Replies

Mercedes, Troutwine and Hickman have been filling up the boxscore seemingly every game. Anyone have a read on any of them? Mercedes in particular is smashing over 400 and caught both ends of a double header yesterday.

Hickman and Mercedes are sort of catchers, but seem like mostly offensive players. Hickman plays a lot of 1b, tbh I didn’t even know he was still behind plate.

Troutwine no idea yet on his receiving skills. Hope to see more.

South side Sox says Troutwine’s defense is below average.  https://www.southsidesox.com/2018/10/1/17916438/ninth-round-pick-gunnar-troutwine-proved-to-be-a-great-catch-in-this-years-draft

Hard to get excited about college players excelling in Low A.  Just read about Gorman dominating the MWL and it made me sad.  Sox have to start drafting more HS players.

Troutwine has been awesome at the plate but I’m a big Carlos Perez guy. Think he’ll be quality MLB backup catcher. Love his offensive approach.

Zack Collins is a good hitter and hopefully will be our Catcher for the upcoming seasons, not sure I would draft a Catcher in the early rounds.
