An honest question about Vaughn

When does Vaughn get called up next year?

Call him up after two weeks or start him in AA and keep him there until super two  cutoff?

You could also bring him up immediately but that would be stupid as it means you just as well could have called him up this September

I would want to wait to see how free agency goes, does spring training happen normally, and will there be a MiLB season before guessing at that one.  My guess in general would be if he signs an early extension, he opens the season on the roster, and if he doesn't he spends some time not on the major league roster to start the season.

Tim Anderson already has the catching position locked up, sorry

It would be like putting Konerko in RF. You might be able to get away with it for a game or 2, but eventually it is going to hurt you really bad.  This guy hits a lot, and plays 1B decently. He i

Separate question on Vaughn... any opinions on whether Sox pursue one of those preseason extensions of Vaughn before his first game, similar to Robert, Jimenez and Anderson? Is there a strong enough sense in his can’t miss abilities that Sox would work one of these type deals for the 2021 season? Just looking for good old fashion opinions on this one...

it seems like the Sox have done pretty well in these type of contract extensions, but the candidate has to be the right upside in terms of talent.

Do they try?  Without a doubt.  Will it succeed?  No idea.

Absolutely they will try.. 8 years for 45 million?

Far higher than Evan White 6/24 (I believe) and justifiably so.

Higher than white definitely but really Vaughn has not much leverage here. He is 23 next year, if the Sox keep him down 2 weeks he is 30 at free agency which is not great for a first baseman.

That is very different from a 20 yo centerfielder like acuna was when he signed.
