Question about my computer

Featured Replies

I keep getting a ton of random pop-ups. It is just as a whole, I am not saying this site. Even when I am not on any website, and have internet explorer closed, I still get tons of pop-ups. All the "trust this website" things pop-up too. I have the pop-up stopper, but it doesn't seem to be working well. What do I do?

Are these popups that are not from IE....

Also, are you on a LAN, such as DSL or Cable internet?

If so, you need to turn off windows messaging.

In XP, you go to start, control panel, administrative tools, services, then in the services menu, you'll see a list of things, scroll down to messenger, right click, select properties, a box will popup, make sure service status is set to stopped and make sure startup type is set to disabled.

And to think, some people are paying money for a program to take care of those kinda popups, which are easily fixed with those simple steps.

Another thing will help is to turn on Internet Connection Firewall if you have XP.

This is truly a great program. Also has a little feature that prevents web sites from installing most of those hidden spyware bots.
