robbie would be fine at 2nd but i would like to see someone besides valentine and rowand out there.

Jose Valentin and Roberto Alomar. CF will probably be Rowand.

Maybe Rowand will have a break out season. I guess i can hope.

Robbie and whoever they can get in a trade for Magglio.

Todd Walker

Tony Graffanino

Aaron Rowand, Jeremy Reed or Joe Borchard

Just throwing out some possibilities, welcome back soxfan420 haven't seen your name around here in a while.

second base Willie Harris

shortstop David Eckstein

center field Aaron Rowand

I would like to see

2B Castillo(although I think it will be Alomar)

SS Guillen

CF Rowand(if he struggles after a couple of month then Reed)

Hey 420 where have you been?

Who the hell knows.

If I had to take a guess, I'd say probably what you saw the very few last games of last year....Alomar, Valentin, and Rowand.

Just as long as I don't have to watch Jose Valentin for another season.

I'd love to see Robbie and Cabrera, or a free agent.

Is Valentin that bad?

The guy whacked 29 homers.

The guy whacked 29 homers.

Yes he's horrible.

The last thing the White Sox need are guys that try to swing for the fences. We already have that in Thomas, Konerko, Lee, and other guys that get homerun happy.

We need guys that get on base.

Valentin is not a patient hitter, and he strikes out a lot. The guy can't hit a breaking ball, and when he does it's usually a hanger or he just runs into it.

I don't want Jose back here next year. Period.

I'm not sure if I'd put Konerko in the category of always swinging for the fences. He just had a really bad year this year.

If we trade Konerko and/or Ordonez, plus lose Thomas to free agency, we may need those 28, 29 homers that Jose can hit.

I agree with you Yasny in some ways, however I do not think we will lose all three. Therefore I just want Valentin gone, I don't even know why he considers himself a switch hitter. The guy batted .131 from the right side of the plate, that's unacceptable.

Sure Jose can have his "power surges" where he hits three homeruns in two games and than he'll slump for awhile.

My point is that there are better options out there than Jose Valentin, and in my opinion getting one of those additions is only going to make this team better.

I would like to see

Harris and Cabrera in the middle of the infield, with Rowand, Cameron (not happening), or Reed in Center.

I would agree, except Jose can't do anything else at the plate, he is either home run or out.

i could live with that

Cabrerra has to be playing shortstop for the Sox. I do not even want to think about Jose Valentin as the Sox starting shortstop for another season. Horrible OBP, improved defense, losing speed.

At 2nd I guess Roberto is fine if its cheap, but I don't mind giving Harris a shot or signing a cheap vet that stays on the market. Maybe sign Adam Kennedy for 3 mill or so.

All the talk down here in SoCal is that the Angels plan on signing Matsui or Tejada and moving Eckstein to 2nd. I guess Kennedy is a free agnet or thats what I have been reading.

Jason,

I agree 100%. Finally I find someone that sees things the same way I do.

Sounds good to me.

What is your take on Centerfield.

Personally, I have never thought much of Rowand. I would like to see Reed get another year under his belt, and Borchard doesn't appear to be ready. What do we do?

I like Aaron Rowand, you've gotta admit the kid has a lot of heart. He hustles his ass off every play.

He's the type of guy we need on this team.

As for Jeremy Reed, if continues to hit like he is now in spring training there is no need keeping him the minors this year.

NO VALENTIN. At 34 he is on the downside of his career and is more likely to get worse then better. Here is a trends that should discourage the Sox from resigning Valentin.

00' .273 BA .834 OPS

01' .258 BA .845 OPS

02' .249 BA .790 OPS

03' .237 BA .776 OPS

That is a pretty striaght forward decrease over the last 3 years. Factor in that he is almost guaranteed to SO more then 100 times, has average speed at best(although he is a pretty smart baserunner), doesn't draw a ton of walks, and poor D(although it was better in 2003, however, I think that is an exception and not the norm for the future) and you have a player that the Sox need to get rid of. The biggest areas of weakness for this team offensively is BA, OBP, and speed. Valentin hurts the Sox in all 3 places.

My top choice would be Guillen from Seattle. Rumor has it that Seattle is the favorite to sign Matsui, which will probably make Guillen expendable. With Cameron likely to leave, the possible retirement of Martinez, and the little offensive production that Seattle got from their outfield I think they would be interested in a player like Lee. I think a Lee for Guillen and a prospect would be a fair trade for both teams. I like Guillen for a few reasons. He is 28 and coming into the prime of his career. Here is a trend that should encourage the Sox to go after Guillen

00' .257 BA .720 OPS

01' .259 BA .688 OPS

02' .261 BA .720 OPS

03' .276 BA .753 OPS

He has seen his average go up each of the last 3 years, and has seen an increase in OPS each of the last 2 years. He has shown solid plate disipline each year, has decent speed, is solid defensively, can play multiple positions, and I think he might show a little more power if you take him out of a great pitchers park like Safeco. He will get around 3M next year, which is probably about the same that Valentin will get. I think Guillen would be a good player to add to this team.
