October 28, 200322 yr Soriano only hit 15 homers in Yankee stadium last year. He'd probably do far better than that at U.S. Cellular. Straight up for Mags? Pull the trigger.

Soriano, like many Yankee$ players is overrated. Is he good? Yes. But look at what he did this playoffs....nearly 30 Ks! He has a HUGE swing and chases pitches constantly. His 'D' at second is also suspect. Soriano for Maggs would be a big mistake IMO.

The difference being we have no lead off hitter and no second baseman. We are much deeper in the OF. Plus Soriano's speed is just awesome. You can learn disipline, you can't learn speed.
October 28, 200322 yr Ok, can someone that knows younger players tell me this: Can Soriano play SS as well as second base? Wasn't he a converted SS? By the way, my wife loves his long legs...she says he looks like a young colt running around the bases. Forkit!
October 29, 200322 yr I like that Deal, But we still would need a Leadoff Guy. Soriano for me would play CF and Bat 5th. I would like Renteria or Tejada at short, but the money I would Use for Pitching unless El Cheapo would open up the Checkbook a littler I like this Line Up. Alomar 2B Reed RF Thomas DH Tejada SS Soriano CF Lee LF Johnson 1B Crede 3B Olivo C Or if Soriano Would Play Second this is not bad Soriano 2B Reed CF Thomas DH Ibañez RF Lee LF Johnson 1B Crede 3B ??? SS Olivo C Thats a good lineup. Only thing is I'd flop Soriano into the 2 hole and move Reed down. Reed isn't proven so I think you'd be better with him in the 7 or 8 hole.

Too many flaws still
October 29, 200322 yr Gammons just said that Johnson and Soriano will probably not be back in NY next year. He also said that the White Sox will be the breakout team in 2004. I don't look for either to happen. Sometimes I really wonder where Gammons gets his stuff.
October 29, 200322 yr Hmmm ... would we be happy with Alomar and Soriano at the top of the order and at the middle infield spots? Interesting possibility.
October 29, 200322 yr I'm sure Soriano could learn CF or RF fairly quickly. It would take some work, but it could happen. Carlos Lee learned to play LF, Craig Biggio learned to play CF, etc. Worse case scenario - we have Sammy Sosa teach Soriano how to play RF. Soriano would give us speed - and we all know that speed kills. Plus, yeah, he would strikeout a lot, but his HR's and RBI's would offset that.

Biggio did play CF for Houston, but I wouldn't go so far as to say he actually learned how to do it. He was pretty bad, based on what I saw.
October 29, 200322 yr He was no Gary Maddox, granted, but he wasn' t the worst I've seen. Plus, he's older and unable to physically make up for his mistakes with pure athleticism. Worse-case scenario, he plays 2B. A Sox 2B who could hit 35 HR and steal 35 bases? Wow. We haven't seen production like that since Donnie Hill.
