October 28, 200322 yr All reports say he will either stay in NY or go to Houston. Also, haven't seen you post before, so Welcome JR.
October 28, 200322 yr Yeah, Andy has stated that he would love to stay in his area of Houston. NY Yanks will work to keep him though, I would think. They have to hold onto some aspect of that pitching staff, and with Pettite being the best they have, and NY loving the guy, I would think that should be one of Steinbrenners main goals. If he loses Torre and Clemens (which I think Torre is gone, and Clemens we know is gone), and he lets Andy go, then Yank fans might just storm the castle.
October 28, 200322 yr Yeah, not too many NY fans would be happy with a starting rotation of: Wells, Weaver, Lieber, Contreras....
October 28, 200322 yr Yeah, not too many NY fans would be happy with a starting rotation of: Wells, Weaver, Lieber, Contreras.... You forgot Mussina...
October 29, 200322 yr Oops...yes I did...the Moose...so.. Mussina, Wells, Contreras, Weaver, Lieber. There still would be some yelling by the NY folks, I'm sure...that won't cut it. Lieber coming off the surgery, WEaver having no consistency, Wells constant back issues, Contreras has established nothing in his 1st year.....they have 1 established frontline starter in Mussina
October 29, 200322 yr Wells won't be around next year. Is that intuition, Jas, or something you've read somewhere? I know he is injury prone at his age, but I thought he had 1 more year left.

For some reason I thought the Yanks had a buyout of some sort. I read a few places that the Boss wants him out and that their is a good shot he will retire.
October 29, 200322 yr Wells is a goner in New York after he pulled himself outta Game Five in the Series. Book it, Dan-No
October 29, 200322 yr Then you have Mussina, Contreras, Lieber, and Weaver.... If thats the case, the NYY fans will be :puke all year. Ans we know that George won't take that rotation...
October 29, 200322 yr My guess at their starting five: Mussina Colon Pettitte Lieber Contreras Not too shabby, if Lieber can come anywhere near his pre-injury self.
October 29, 200322 yr I'm not sure its gonna be ALL about money for Petitte this time around. I can realistically see him heading to Houston. If that happens, then its inevitable that Colon goes to NY, whether he says he wants to play there or not.
October 29, 200322 yr I am pretty sure that NY has an option to pick up wells contract for 04, doubtful
October 29, 200322 yr Apparently, KW is setting his sights on the best remaining FA pitchers available now that Colon is out of the picture. Who knows, it just might be Pettitte.
October 29, 200322 yr If that's the case, then let's hope Kenny can pull another horseshoe out of his crack like he did with Loaiza. I would like to see a "big name" starter and then a "take a chance on me" starter. Kelvim Escobar? Carl Pavano? Who knows? It's fun to speculate though. Repetitive and pointless, but fun nonetheless.

Livan Hernandez? Wilson Alverez? You're right. Pointless. Repetitive. Fun.
October 29, 200322 yr It just brings out the eternal optimism that we all have within us, no matter how negative we are externally. Livan would be too much money, plus he's been known to have his best years right before his contract comes up. Hmmmm. Coincidence? I'm not so sure. I know this may not be a popular choice, but I would like to see Kenny take a chance on Carl Pavano as his "second SP signing." He's finally over his surgery of two years ago, and the guy has good stuff. Plus, the playoff stage really showed his ability and helped him hone his concentration level. And him pitching great just increased his confidence to such a high level. I don't want ONLY Pavano, but he would be one guy I would look at. He would be one hell of a #4 starter, IMO. I love the offseason.

October 29, 200322 yr Exactly. Here we go again with the eternal optimism, but a rotation of Buehrle, Loaiza, Pavano, Garland, and someone like Ponson/Colon/?? would totally rule the A.L. Look at the best teams in the A.L. Yes, the A's have a dominant rotation with Mulder, Hudson, Zito, Lilly, and Harden. They will be the favorites, I think. But the Red Sox were a final four team with Pedro, Suppan, Wakefield, and Burkett. That rotation ain't all that, quite frankly. The Yankees were a final four team with Fatass Broken-Down Wells, On My Last Legs Clemens, Andy Pettite, and Mike Mussina. A decent staff, but nothing to nominate for the "best ever" category. The Twins were a final four team with Eric Milton, Rick Reed, Kenny Rogers, Joe Mays, and Johan Santana. Besides Santana, does anyone on that staff intimidate or scare you? Nope. If we could strengthen our starting staff and have just enough firepower on offense, we could make the Twins our b****es. How sweet would THAT be?
October 29, 200322 yr We'd have to be able to play some defense, or the Twins would still win it. And if we don't win it this year, it may be awhile. KC and Cleveland are both getting better. I look for the Tribe to make a drastic improvement this year.
October 29, 200322 yr KC's pitchers are still "young pups." They will break down yet again in the dog days of summer. Cleveland has some great young talent, but it's still YOUNG. They're not "ready for prime time." Detroit - well, it's Detroit. They would be lucky to beat a little league team. It's us against the Twins, and the Twins are going to lose some key guys. You think OUR payroll is limited? Try being a fan of the Minnesota Morons!

October 29, 200322 yr That will change. Remember, their owner is Carl Pohlad, who makes Reinsdorf look like Mark Cuban.
