MB has 3 years, 78 days service time in the bigs. Joe has 1 year, 124 days. Meaning basically Mark can be a free agent (GOOD MORNING ST. LOUIS!) two years before Joe can.

Each year there are a handful of guys who qualify for free agency with between 5 and 6 years' time, and I don't know how that happens. It's safe to say that Mark will be with us in 2004 and 2005. Unless KW trades him for Todd Richie.

Looks like I'll have number 56 on my back for opening day next year
