The Athletic $1 a month?

Featured Replies

I just clicked on a link, and there was a red button at the top of their page, offering $1 a month for a year. I thought this might be of interest to the community. Please feel free to delete if this is just clutter.

I canceled my subscription a few months ago. Well, New York Times subscription which offered the Athletic for free. For 12 bucks, it might be worth it, but I felt conned because it marketed itself as "smarter coverage for die-hard fans." I was imagining long form, well-researched articles but it's anything but, it's the same drivel you'll read on ESPN, arguably worse than ESPN Insider. I guess that's the only way for it to turn a profit. The last straw for me was when they fired Fegan and 20 other journalists. Their coverage of other sports might be better, don't really know.

Personally I'm wondering if it's worth it to subscribe to Baseball America. $100 a year is not cheap but maybe you get what you pay for.

I only want The Athletic for Keith Law's draft analysis, and the odd article I click on from Twitter. I never read Baseball America when I got the digital copy. It used to be just for the lists, but now everyone has top 10 prospect lists, and MLB basically took that away from everyone with theirs.

I think he's about the only writer worth reading still left there, maybe Rosenthal. Probably can't go wrong at such a low price.

Austin mock has fantastic prediction models if you like gambling.

I would return if James Fegan returned to the White Sox beat.

When I played Rotisserie, felt Eno Sarris was worth reading, and a couple others. Had Baseball Prospectus as well, dropped both.

If they have a regular White Sox dude, he sure doesn't post with any regularity.

I cancelled my subscription when they fired Fegan and cut Sox coverage. Out of principle won’t go back.
