November 13, 200322 yr We can deal Ordonez, Konerko, and Koch and have some good money on hand. We could probably sign Everett for $6,000,000 per year since there is a strong free agent market. Or we can bring in Reggie Sanders or Rondell White for less money. We can trade Konerko for Odalis Perez and Ching-Feng Chen or something. Then we have a 1-2-3-4 starter. We make Odalis the #4, Garland #5, and have money to sign Millwood or Ponson. We'd still have enough money to afford a decent 2B (from Castillo down to Vina). Then we'd be looking at something like this.... 2B Vina/Castillo? LF Lee DH Thomas RF Rondell White/Reggie Sanders/Carl Everett 3B Crede SS Valentin CF Borchard or Reed? 1B Chen C Olivo Do we have enough speed to manufacture runs? We know Sanders or Everett, Vina or Castillo, Valentin, Borchard or Reed, and Olivo can run. We just need to play some good small ball. SP Buehrle SP Loaiza SP Ponson/Millwood SP Perez SP Garland Solid thru and thru. CP Troy Percival (for Mags, was 33-37 in converting saves. Amazing.) SU Marte SH Gordon? Possibly resign MI Wunsch Alt Starter Schoeneweis Short or Long Sullivan? Might not cost much with Mags gone... Plus other RP's and then your bench. I think we could build a cheap yet winning team if we traded Konerko, Koch, and Sadly Ordonez. But we need to get an outfielder that has pop and can hit lefty. We have 4 righty's in a row in our order so the pitcher's could just settle into a groove on the heart of our order. If we cut down strikeouts, pop outs; and start running and playing small ball, we can take the division. Getting Percival would be key for us. A closer is everything, look at what Guardado did for the Twins last year. Just some thoughts. I'm a little confused on our Konerko to LA situation, I really don't know anyone who can play 1st, I just know that Chen was mentioned...
November 13, 200322 yr Sadly I think to truly have a shot next year, given the payroll situation, we will have to lose players. It will truly take some savvy on KW's part to put a better team on the field next year. It can be done, but it will be a difficult task.
November 13, 200322 yr Konerko for Odalis Perez isn't gonna happen. Also, there's no way in hell the Sox's rid themselves of Koch without taking on another bad contract.
November 13, 200322 yr Author Konerko for Odalis Perez isn't gonna happen. Also, there's no way in hell the Sox's rid themselves of Koch without taking on another bad contract. Yeah I wouldn't want to do Koch for Cedeno considering the money Cedeno is making. Plus rumors indicate that the Dodgers are interested in trading us Perez for Konerko or Lee.
November 13, 200322 yr Yeah I wouldn't want to do Koch for Cedeno considering the money Cedeno is making. Plus rumors indicate that the Dodgers are interested in trading us Perez for Konerko or Lee. Yeah, that's why their called rumors. The Dodgers aren't stupid enough to take on Konerko's horrible contract. The only way a deal with the Dodgers goes down is if Lee is involved or a top level prospect like Rauch or Borchard are included with PK.

November 13, 200322 yr But Konerko > McGriff.... So you never know. But, 8.5 million to find a 1B > Konerko, that and LA could find a better deal for Perez. Perez is to LA what Buehrle is to us, would you trade Buehrle for Konerko? I think not.
November 13, 200322 yr PK and Borchard for Perez and mabye a AA guy is a decent deal, and I whould take it. If KW can get Perez and Steve Colyer for PK and Borchard, i'd do it in a heartbeat.
November 13, 200322 yr Author If KW can get Perez and Steve Colyer for PK and Borchard, i'd do it in a heartbeat. Colyer is one of their future studs. I don't think we're getting him.
November 13, 200322 yr Colyer is one of their future studs. I don't think we're getting him. He's a bullpen guy and with Gange they might be willing to let a possible closer prospect go.
November 13, 200322 yr He's a bullpen guy and with Gange they might be willing to let a possible closer prospect go. Gagne has been rumored to be on the block because of his demands...likely 10 mill a year. Don't think they will trade him this year, but possibly next year.
November 13, 200322 yr Gagne has been rumored to be on the block because of his demands...likely 10 mill a year. Don't think they will trade him this year, but possibly next year. No way is Gagne going anywhere, that would be like Boston trading Pedro. I just can't see LA allowing another team to have him.
November 13, 200322 yr No way is Gagne going anywhere, that would be like Boston trading Pedro. I just can't see LA allowing another team to have him. There were rumors floating in season that the Dodgers would do it in order to free up the money to sign Nomar.

We might get that one straight up though, Lee is on the cusp and the Dodgers desperately need hitters. I would do it.
November 13, 200322 yr There were rumors floating in season that the Dodgers would do it in order to free up the money to sign Nomar. I'm sure they'd be able find a way to unload Darren Dreifort (maybe pay half his salary, $6.5M out of $13M) and other big deals like Paul Shuey, Paul Quantrill, Hideo Nomo and Todd Hundley come off the books before the start of the 2005 season. So, money shoudn't be a issue if they want both Gagne and Nomar.

I'd say Dreifort and Brown are two contracts they are stuck on and somehow they don't project that type of stuff, but I agree they could get it done. I think their quandry is since they've gotten stuck on some of the pitchers they have offered big bucks too, has led them to wonder whether its worth giving a pitcher a long term deal at huge bucks, especially at a position that has a very short expectancy cause usually closers are 3 or 4 years and then out.
November 13, 200322 yr Wait a second. Go the way of the Twins? You mean you want us to get rid of our two best relievers and our best hitter? I hope not. And then maybe trade one of our top starters too? I sure hope not. Let's not go the way of the Twins, and instead go the way of the White Sox. That is, let KW f*** something up and then say it was a baseball move or that he didn't know that his shoulder was torn up.
November 13, 200322 yr I think Konerko has more trade value than most people. I look at Konerko as a good young hitter that just had a very bad season. He has shown that he can hit, and hit well. I can see the Dodgers trading Perez for him. I'm sure they'd rather have Lee, but then again, so would we.

I was thinking more of getting players who give a s***, and winning a couple of division titles...
November 13, 200322 yr I was thinking more of getting players who give a s***, and winning a couple of division titles... What a concept!
November 13, 200322 yr I was thinking more of getting players who give a s***, and winning a couple of division titles... I've read that the Twins spent more on payroll than anybody in our division. Maybe we could try doing that. Plus, it seems like they make good decisions on trades, drafting, and developing players. Maybe we could try doing that, too.
November 13, 200322 yr I was thinking more of getting players who give a s***, and winning a couple of division titles... I know. I just tried to throw a little comic relief on the fire. Didn't work, huh? Actually though, I think the Twins won the division because they actually have a half-decent coaching staff in Minnesota. When Jerry Manuel was your manager, you were not going to do s***. I mean, if the coach doesn't give a s***, why should the players? It's not that the Sox don't give a s***...because I think they do. You saw that in the 12-game stretch in June against the Cubs and Twins. I just don't think they played hard enough as long as they could have. When you try to hit the 5-run homer, you're not going to win many games, whether or not you give a s***. And that's what they were doing. And if that wasn't caught and changed, I lay blame on ONE man....and that man is no longer working for the White Sox organization, so I don't give a s*** now. Let's hope Ozzie can figure s*** out.
