Interesting. A second or third cather that can fill in and play first, second or third if needed screams versatility. Lets see what Hankins can do in Arizona in March. He could compete for that always valuable 25th roster spot.

Hankins is definately opening up his possibilities as an uber utility man. Thats going to definately have some value, especially when the Sox carry someone like Sandy who has a tendency to get hurt. It can be a way to carry three catchers, without kind of carrying three catchers.

I agree Jason. If he can produce at all up here he would be a great utility guy for a lot of positions. That could be pretty nice.

Hankins sounds like a smart, hard working kid. I hope he gets his shot.

A guy who can play multiple positions including catcher? Man too bad the tinkerer never got ahold of this guy. :bang ;)

He wouldn't be able to decide which tinker to tink.

Hankins has always been a favorite of mine..... Like the article said, finding a position for him was always the hard part.

I love that versitility. Could he also play some OF (now I mean decent, not gold glove caliber)? Look at Eli Marrero and Ben Petrick. Both can catch and play other positions, and Petrick has even played CF. I think he would be good if we resign Sandy.

I read this article on Hankins and my first thoguht was how I wished more players had the drive to improve themselves and succede. He just might make it to the bigs with that attitude.
