1) Meidroth will not be slightly above big league SS average without an arm and range.

2) There's already dribblers getting between him and Drury.

3) This will just end up putting more pressure on a pitching staff not designed to be as strong individually as Crochet or even Fedde last season.

4) The bullpen MIGHT be better?   That's the best that one can assert at this point.

1) Again, you don't need GG level infielders to play a baseball game. Meidroth played a lot of shortstop last year. He'll be fine as a stopgap.

2) Dribblers always get through the infield. Coaching will just have to lean heavier into the statistical positioning. Drury was better than league average at 2B in 2023.

3) If Meidroth and Drury/Sosa are sure-handed, you don't need Francisco Lindor at short. This team's going to lose 100+ games. If you're complaining about "trying to eke out one more win in April" with certain roster decisions, aren't you doing the same thing by kvetching over "guys playing at their strongest positions"? I do think the rotation will be fine. Everybody forgets how horrible Flexen/Soroka/Nastrini/Cannon were in their first runs through the rotation.

4) I'll agree with you on this point.

  • Nothing left to prove in AAA. His success in that league is much more important than anything that has happened this spring. I'm hoping he's the opening day shortstop.

  • Baldwin over 100 mph EV on the double. For me, Baldwin > Meidroth, but I have always been a fan.

  • There is something to be said for having the rookies go through their growing pains this year and be ready to produce next year.
