Mets Owner Nixed Koch Trade

Featured Replies

A deal was reached and Koch was going to be dealt for David Weathers, but then the Mets owner nixed the deal.

Would of been a good move if you ask me. I still think that deal could go down or a variation of that deal.

The $3 mil salary difference was the deal breaker there.

Most likely, the funny thing is Jim Duquette was supposed to have full power. He thought that 3 mill difference was a bargain to get a good closer cause Peterson and Howe are convinced they can fix Koch.

Just keep Koch. I think he's going to break out this year and that the Sox will fill the holes with minor leaguers...we'll be okay and MMM BEASTLY ORDONEZ will stay for one more season

If the Sox are seriously willing to bring back Colon and then go after someone like Tejada then move Koch, Lee, Konerko whoever is needed because it would be sweet.

If you can save 3.5 mill by going from Weathers to Koch who you can't count on...then you do it, imo. The Sox can't just throw out 3.5 mill on a whilm that he will come back. Velocity is not something easily regained. Just ask Bob Howry or Billy Simas.

Good point about Simas and Howry...

Weathers would have been a great pickup. We need Sullivan back tho. If sullivan is not re-signed then Trading Hummel is looking kinda bad right now with Graffy saying he might leave

Agreed, I think the Sox will bring Sully back. I don't see him going back to the Reds. But wherever Sully goes, I think he's gonna want a multi year deal and I think he's gonna be willing to give a discount to the team that offers is. He seems like someone who just wants to know his wife and family will be able to live someplace and be happy.

I second that.

I'd bet the deal breaker was that Cedeno was still a Met.
