We lose another player...I guess the key question is, if Reinsdorf won't invest the necessary money into the team, why doesn't he sell it to someone who will??? I think $3.5 million for 1 year would have been a no-brainer, but Gordon wanted $5 million for a 1-year deal. I think it's appropriate to be skepticl as to whether his arm is going to hold out for two years, but I would not have thought it imprudent if we had offered 2-years/7 million. Flash was an asset last year and now it's another hole that needs filling. I don't want to see Marte moved into the closer roll if Kotch remains a bust, and Gordon would have been the better fall back if/when we need it.

No way. If he would have re-upped with us -- and then injured his elbow in spring training (like he did for the Cubs in 2001, I believe), everybody would have jumped on Kenny Williams' throat. Besides, I thought the thing that was most important to Flash was the chance to 'Close' again. What's he going to close in New York, Mariano Rivera's suitcase? Better he close his mouth and stop lying -- 'cause he's all about the money, just like Bartolo and the rest.
December 1, 200322 yr Say what you will but if it was announced that Steinbrenner bought the White Sox you could hear me cheering from here. The bullpen was as much a factor in our "1st Loser" position as anything else. I'm hoping that this means the club has some justification that Koch, instead of Botch will be with us next season. I wasn't a huge Flash fan, but thought he was as good as it got for us.

You ask for something unreasonable, then you go somewhere else for less than what you said because you had no intention of coming back in the first place, but you just wanted to use the former as leverage.

They can point out to the player how much more money they are getting to do whatever a specific team needs them to do, in the case the Yanks need a set up man, and everyone is happy especially the agent who gets a bigger pay check.

I don't see it. i'd say Mark Beurhle in the 38th or whatever round was a pretty good find, Crede, Lee, and Maggs came up through our system, as did Rowand. Also, maybe not in the past 2 years or so but in the late '90s our farm system was consitently rated amongst the best. Did Cameron come through our system too?
