December 9, 200322 yr What's going on with this guy, he's a pretty big free agent out there, and I thought and still think that the sox are going to be in the running for this guy, but I haven't heard anything about him since the offseason started about him, do you think teams have just been waiting to see the giants decline arbitration on him or what? I'm just curious to what's going on with him.
December 9, 200322 yr Giants didn't offer him arb, so he's a free agent now. Like I said before, I think the Sox are gonna try to unload these contracts at the winter meetings then target pitching.
December 9, 200322 yr With the dissapointment of the sox not resigning Colon, we better damn at least get Ponson. I say going into the season it is UNACCEPTABLE to have to throw in a guy from the minors or a reliever in the #5 spot.

December 9, 200322 yr The part about waiting for the Winter Meetings, is they don't offer contracts to marque-players early enough to show that player serious interest. I just wish we could go after a title one year without payroll a concern, ala the Marlins 1997. I would gladly trade a world series title for two subpar years following. What do you guys think?

December 9, 200322 yr Ponson is almost a must sign at this point unless kw has a really creative trade coming up. Either way we need to add two quality starters not just one.

There's a lot of free agents who aren't getting much buzz. Some of it is has to do with the Yankees-Red Sox-Rangers holding it all up. If the A-Rod deal doesn't happen, Angels and Dodgers turn their attention else where. With the Yanks if Pettite goes to Houston, then they turn elsewhere. And another point is that the owners aren't spening money like they used to.

If they can't move Magglio his contract is up to 14 million from the 9-10 he made last year. Carlos and Mark are up for big raises due to good performance last season.

The numbers he was putting up before he got traded definitely weren't garland numbers, and don't forget he's still young, and keeps getting better every year, I personally think he'd be a great sign.
December 9, 200322 yr Some guys said Baltimoire put him against the other team's #3,4,5 starters...to bolster his trade value at the deadline...IMO you have to face the line-up not the other team's pitcher...

Run support goes a long way in determining a pitchers wins and losses. Loiza would have won the Cy young this year if he had the run support of Roy Halladay. He won 21 games, and lost 2 1-0 games to Detroit.... sure your line-up can pick you up one day and let you down another... Toronto's won Roy halladay a Cy young.... --------------------------- The STATS supports that argument... Most of Ponson's stats remained the same when he switched teams and yet he when he was pitching in big games he lost.... This guy is not a winner and not a replacement for Colon.... HE'LL be overpriced and will Under-produce..

Millwood will be overpaid as well and Maddux's best days are behind him. The only other option is kw completely fleecing another GM and I just don't see that happening.
