If the Mets fail to secure Urbina, they may re-explore a deal with the White Sox for Billy Koch. As for Boston's Scott Williamson (who could very well be non-tendered on Dec. 20), he would seemingly fit. But while the Mets held some mild talks with Boston, they did not show much passion to do a deal.

The Mets have talked with the agent for Diamondbacks right-hander Miguel Batista's agent and were slated to speak again last night. Batista, who had 10 wins and a 3.54 ERA last year, likely will ask for a three-year deal . . . Mike Powers, Reggie Sanders' agent, said the ball is essentially in the Mets' court to put something together for Sanders, or the free agent is poised to move in a different direction. The agent for Brian Jordan, Jim Turner, called Jim Duquette this weekend to express his client's "strong interest" in coming to Shea. Don't be surprised if the Mets look at Jay Payton, a likely Colorado non-tender . . . The Mets will introduce Kaz Matsui at a press conference in Manhattan today.

The interesting statement there is the possibility of the Rockies non-tendering Jay Peyton.

Ya, its been reported that most likely Payton will be non tendered so the Sox could go after him if they move Lee or Magglio.

I still think that the Weathers-Koch deal will go down.

I've been dismissing any talk of Koch playing for another MLB team next season as wishful thinking. Now I'm starting to wonder, are the Mets seeing something we aren't? I'm hoping that Koch and not Botch will show up next season, but it's just idle die hard fan wishing. Or have I missed something?

Howe and the pitching coach are firmilar with Koch. I thik they have a better idea how to handle him than JM did.

So they are thinking it's mechanics that's causing the 93 mph, flat as Kansas, fastball.

I pray so.

Well since they have yet to find an injury, you'd have to suspect that its mechanics.

Koch will probably be like Keith Foulke. Have a crappy year, go to another team and save 45 gms...

I refered to him as Billy :fyou Botch from the opening KC Series. I'd love to have some faith in him. Of everyone in our pen his best career stuff is as good as it gets. I would ahve felt better if he announced he was going in for surgery. If it is mechanics I hope he can work them out over the winter.
