December 11, 200322 yr I just finished Reading Moneyball by Michael Lewis and May the best team win, baseball economics and public policy by Andrew Zimbalist. Both were somewhat interesting and I was wondering if anyone could recomend any others that are good.
December 11, 200322 yr I read Tim McCarver's book, don't remember the title but he gave a pretty in-depth perspective of baseball strategy.
December 11, 200322 yr I'll go with two fairly obvious ones: "Ball Four" by Jim Bouton "Eight Men Out" - can't remember the author's name offhand, but I THINK you can figure out the subject matter...it's a great read, the book is at least as good as the movie.
December 11, 200322 yr "Ball Four" is great. I second The Critics nomination. I also thoroughly enjoyed "Veeck as in Wreck" by the late Bill Veeck. Good insight into baseball in the mid 1900's.

Most bookstores don't carry many Sox titles, but if you want to read the life story of the Cubs groundskeeper's sister, I bet you can find that anywhere....

They are flying off the handle about not being able to sign anybody... Reading this book puts it all in perspective and gives you a little hope that building a winning team on a tight buget can be done.
December 11, 200322 yr What are these 'books' you guys speak of? They're these big wordy things full of words. Some of them also have pretty pictires, but some are just words and more words. Word after word after word, all in a row. Sometimes they even make books based on popular movies! Can you believe THAT???

December 12, 200322 yr Veeck as in Wreck The Long Ball True Believers (covers more than just baseball though) Historical Baseball Abstract (good, but takes some patience) Eight Men Out Also, I just finished reading the latest John Grisham novel, "Bleachers". It was tremendous, and I recommend it to Grisham fans.

It was tremendous, and I recommend it to Grisham fans. Second good word I've heard about Bleachers. Maybe I should open it up and read it and not just let it collect dust on my dresser.
