Hey everybody, I have some news on the trade front. I just got off the phone with Dan Stouter who is very close to G.M. Kevin Towers. He told me the White Sox and the Padres have agreed to a deal to send Valentin to San Diego in exchange for Kevin Jarvis. This deal is contingent on the Nomar for Ordonez trade.

I don't see the logic behind this deal.

The logic, I assume, would be that if this is correct, we'd be keeping Nomar, and unloading Jose's contract on someone else in exchange for pitching. The Sox almost picked up Jarvis last season, so they must like him for some reason or another.

 

I don't like it because it means we're keeping Nomar.

 

Jarvis isn't of Latin descent, however, so I don't expect this to happen.

What it means is that if this is true, the Sox are keeping Nomar and shipping Valentin for whatever value they could find.

At least this answers the question of whether we are keeping Nomaaah or not.

Um, I would perfer Lawrence (duh). I am not sold on Nomar either, but he will give us a superstar at the highest profiled position.

Jarvis is owed a whole lotta money. I don't know how much, but I know SD has been trying to dump him on anyone and everyone they trade with. In fact, in initial negotiations with the Pirates on the Giles deal were delayed because SD was so insistent on dumping this guy. I don't like the smell of this...if its for real.

I dunno, sometimes I think decent pitching that gets hot at the right time wins.

 

But I am in total agreement that this really would be a stupid move by KW. You can't argue that Jose has his moments when he is effective, even stellar at times, whereas I can't see anything Jarvis does well other than keep the trainer's table warm.

Trade makes no sense what so ever, and everything I have heard says Valentine to Seattle, so I whouldnt take this rumor to the bank.
