It seems like a lot of people are bringing up the 500 homer platuea. Fred McGriff is 9 home runs away from 500. Does that mean he deserves the HOF? IMO I don't think he deserves it, just because he swings for the fences all the time, but he did win in Atlanta, which would give him an edge over Frank in that category.

I think he'll make it, he needs probably 3 seasons to get 500. IF he gets 500 he'll almost diffentley get in, even though the "bar has been raised" his image will hurt though.

Eddie Murray got in why not crime dog?? He's been a run Producer all these years.

About 1,300 of Paul Molitor's 3000 hits came as a DH. He also played about 3 or 4 more seasons because of the DH rule. Look where he is now.

Very good point, but again, it all comes down to perception.

When you think of Paul Molitor, you don't ( or at least I don't ) think of him as a DH - I think of him as a 2B/3B.

When you think of Frank, DH comes straight to mind.

I still think that by the time he's done, his numbers will be too impressive to ignore, but if anything was to hold him out of the HOF ( besides stupid writers' personal vendettas, which happen too often in HOF voting, IMO ), it would be the DH bias and Frank's attitude, real or perceived.

and yet - who knows

I know very well they were 1 game behind and yet feel that they were no threat to us for a fully played season, no more than we were a threat to them being 3.5 behind them on August 1 1997

(as for E Banks, I knew him and Santo and the others when I was 5 and my best friend's father [E Averill Jr.] played for that north side team - and as a small wee child in a cub north west side family, I looked at Banks, Santo, et. al. and said: no....... goofy...... t'ain't nothing I want anything to do with...  I am a Sox fan!  Not many times you reject the team that your best friend's father plays on let alone your family fave team, but whatever they were, I wasn't it - they repelled me

and I got my grandson a poster for Xmas with Mags (his fave), Frank,a nd PK on it and his first comment: "Look!  The Big Hurt!"  In our family, Banks ain't no Thomas.

I do understand that, just stating a point. That strike hurt a lot of teams, including us, but also the Expos as well. They were going to win the division that year by a lot. And we also saw a division even weaker then the AL Central....the AL West. There are so many things that could have happened that it is damn near impossible to cover them all.

BTW, love the story. And I do agree Thomas does not = Banks.

From baseball-reference.com it seems likely.

This is some scale they use from the player's stats to determine if he will make the Hall of Fame.

Black Ink: Batting - 21 (96) (Average HOFer ~ 27)

Gray Ink: Batting - 189 (46) (Average HOFer ~ 144)

HOF Standards: Batting - 53.5 (54) (Average HOFer ~ 50)

HOF Monitor: Batting - 179.0 (48) (Likely HOFer > 100)
