Pudge to the Tigers?

Featured Replies

If this is true, the White Sox off-season becomes even more embarrassing.

I realize there is a great chance Scott Boras is using the Tigers and the Detroit Free Press to drive up the price and the interest in I-Rod.

But if it's true that the Tigers are the front-runners for Pudge, it will be another day of howling on Planet White Sox.

when our own fans continue to give I-Rod the nickname that belongs to Fisk, as in this thread title, then we deserve nothing because if we don't give a s*** about our legacy, why should anyone else?

For the money this team justifiably should have zero interest in Ivan Rodriguez. He should be a non-issue to Sox fans.

I read the article yesterday in the Freep and thought good luck to them, we are set at catcher

and maybe, just maybe the Freep (Free Press) is just running a story on a slow news day

could be.

But at least the Tigers are awakening from their slumber.

I've got no problem with the Sox every day lineup.

But to pretend there are not massive holes in the pitching staff at Number 1 starter (Colon's innings), Number 5 starter (a total disaster last season), set-up men in the pen (Gordon, Sullivan) is folly.

It's hardly a stretch to suggest the Sox have done little to nothing to improve themselves this off-season.

And, for the record, Carlton Fisk brought the nickname with him from Boston. He and IRod have shared the title for a bit.

Yes, Fisk brought it from Boston and it has been his nickname from long before IRod ever began playing baseball.

Sigh... Vince, move on.

No, no I won't - a HOF player was one of ours

people go on about how we disrespected him in 1993 at the playoffs (which we did), etc and all that but then we disrespect him by giving his nickname to a lesser player because lazy sportswriters do the same?

it is my pet peeve and I am sticking to it! :headbang :headbang :headbang

Who's this "we". Sox fans..? "We" didn't give him that name (which he hates, btw), Boston fans did. You a Boston fan now...

I don't have time to parse today.

Ok. I am wrong. Never again. I shut my mouth on this forever.

I am not saying this nasty to you, not to you of all people. It is just fine, you win, I am wrong, that is all I have time for now and for a while to come. Some stuff happening here that leaves me less time than usual so what Fisk or IRod is called is now deemed irrelevant to me.

I will say no more on this forever.

Oh for God's sake I was kidding....

Steff, not nasty to you, not all all - you are a dear friend - just so much stuff going on, I think you have just tipped me that it is time to let it all go on this issue.

Fisk was "Pudge" in Boston.

Fisk was "Pudge" growing up.

It's not a Chicago thing.

and I don't want an 8-to-10 million dollar catcher.

I think Olivo is going to do just fine.

The Sox have bigger holes that Pudge money could fill.

Done deal. Man... life will really suck for him if they are as bad as they were last year this year....

So the deal is official?

I will never again refer to Irod as Pudge.

As Irod has 1 fewer letter than Pudge, and therefore why should I devalue a player that I actually have feelings towards for one that I could care less about.

Unless Irod signs here for like $1mil, in which case I will say he bought the rights to the name "Pudge".

Otherwise hes Irod

hehe

So the deal is official?

AM1000 said so.

AM1000 said so.

Now we're looking at 5th place...

If Reinsdorf percieves the competition as being to great and will put the Sox in a position where they will not compete, Reinsdorf will actually get more free agents

The problem is that we play in a division that does not spend money, so as a businessman Jerry knows he does not have to spend money and he can win.

If we were in the AL East or West, we would have a 80-90mil salary cap.

Unfortunately its hard to be a good businessman and a good owner at the same time.

Maximizing profits and value is not winning games.

I agree. We are by no means set at catcher until Olivo can hit .250 or .260 over a full season and stop striking out excessively. Yes, his D is second to none. But he's got to do something with the stick.

we haven't been set at catcher since Pudge -- No. 72 variety -- was around.

No offense, please, Officer Karkovice

I don't recall cwsox say "we" gave the nickname to Fisk. I believe he said that we are giving Fisk's nickname to IRod. I agree with him. There will be only one Pudge in my book and that is Carlton Fisk.
