January 21, 200422 yr Big loss for Da Boys, he turned Quincy's game around this year, The last NFL head coaching vacancy is about to be filled. Cowboys top assistant Sean Payton has agreed in principle to be the next head coach of the Raiders, ESPN.com's Len Pasquarelli confirmed Tuesday. Payton will sign a four-year deal for between $1.3 and $1.5 million per year, according to Pasquarelli. The Raiders have not confirmed the deal, but will announce it at a Thursday news news conference, according to Pasquarelli. Various newspapers had reported earlier Tuesday that a deal between Payton and the Raiders was imminent. Payton was stripped of play-calling duties by then-Giants coach Jim Fassel in 2002 and joined Bill Parcells' staff in Dallas last season. He was credited with helping quarterback Quincy Carter, who started all 16 games and threw for 3,302 yards with 17 touchdowns and 21 interceptions. Cowboys offensive coordinator Maurice Carthon had been considered the other finalist for the job. "I'm out of the running," Carthon told the Contra Costa Times on Tuesday. "They're going to go in a different direction. Sean's going to get that job. He's out there now working out the details, and it could be announced later (Tuesday). Sean's their guy."
January 21, 200422 yr Wow he looks like he is 21. There will be several players older than him on his team
January 21, 200422 yr Wow, The Raiders actually went cheaper for a coach than the Bears Remember how they asked if Marino's job as the GM for Miami was just to stand-in to draw more people to Miami? This is almost what this is, except Sean Payton won't attract anyone. Al Davis is the coach of that team.
January 21, 200422 yr ESPN BottomLine has said that the deal has fallen through, and he may stay with the Cowboys.

January 22, 200422 yr ESPN BottomLine has said that the deal has fallen through, and he may stay with the Cowboys. Yea I saw that same thing. Talks have broken off and he's staying with the Cowboys. OAK, still Coachless.
January 22, 200422 yr This could only happen to da Raiders. Sounds very similar to the McGinnis fiasco before Jauron was hired.
January 22, 200422 yr Sounds very similar to the McGinnis fiasco before Jauron was hired. Ah yes, if we ever feel that we are run by the worst owners in the NFL, there is always Al Davis to laugh at.

Have ya noticed that this is coach #3 on the Cowboys staff that has interviews, accepted in principle another job and at the last minute decides to stay in Dallas? They've got something big planned... like getting a good running back and a decent QB? If they do that, they'll be pretty dangerous next year because they have a decent o-line, great defense, great receivers, etc. They're just missing a running back and QB (not that important, hehe).
