Lee only should play DH. He sucks in left field. I like him as a hitter, beyond that he blows. Why the Hell should we stop bashing him when he sucks at fielding?

There's one minor problem there....

We have one of the best DH's in the history of the game on our team right now in Frank Thomas. WE also have an above average defensive first-baseman in Paul Konerko, so Thomas can only DH. The only way Carlos Lee will DH is if Thomas gets hurt or Carlos is traded.

He'll be fine in LF for this year....then we'll be ready to figure out the situation of Thomas and Lee....it's pretty hard to have two DH's on the same team....one of them has to go. Lee's a FA after this year, and Thomas could opt out of his contract....so we could be without both of them after 2003. If JR has anything to say about it, only Lee will be gone though....because Reinsdorf stepped in at the last second to save Thomas from going to the Dodgers, and he then complimented him in saying he was the best player in White Sox history(which he is). I think Reinsdorf wants to keep him....regardless of what Williams wants to do.

I am sorry, lemme revise that; when and if and only if Frank leaves, we will put him at DH. Number two, yes, he'll be fine, I just want some more speed from him. Number three, why, and when did he switch from 3b to lf?

CLee was a 3B in the minors, he didn't start to play OF untill he got to the bigs.

Although he has had his fair share of blunders in the OF, he has improved over the years. So why can't he be slightly improved this year?

Caballo will have a real good year this season. I think he's going to be a huge reason why this team goes deep into the playoffs, maybe even wins it all.

Will he be the MVP, NO...but he will provide tremendous depth in the lineup. When you have so many offensive weapons that can punish you, it is just way to hard to keep a team down.

I love how Carlos is improving his eye and defense, and he will be much better next year.

Look for .300, 25, 90.

Carlos is a FA after this season, so i doubt he'll be back.

am i missing something on lee???..everyone is saying he is a free agent after this year.. i think even i said it but he only has like 3 years 300 days of ML service in...he started in '99 and played 127 games..im almost sure he spent like april in the minors..making his first year not a full season...dont we have him for 2 more years after this season if thats the case???

the problem with lee is we overpaif him so much that if he goes to arbitration and asks for 6 million all he needs is an average year by his standards to get it....no other team will take that much of a contract on with lee...there is a very good chance he could end up a non-tendered free agent...but i believe we still own his rights...

if my facts are correct here..it might really be time to move carlos now...or we might end up with nothing for him

dump him now...............why wait?????? hes not worth the money and it would just kill me if we had to pay him through arbritration.......... :fyou lee the kw butt sniffer.........

Carlos has the worst throwing mechanics I have seen in a long time. My high school coach would have corrected him, but for some reason major league coaches don't seem to bother. Things like that don't show up in stats. But one thing I like about him, is that he seems to be able to hit the really good pitchers. I have no stats to back me up, it's just something I seem to have noticed. I really think he will improve this year at the plate; if he doesn't, then we will know his level of skill, which is about .275 or so, 25, 75. I think he will increase it a notch or two this year, and I would like to see him bat in the three hole instead of Big Frank. With Maggs and PK right behind him, he might get more fastballs to hit, and Lee is a good fastball hitter, whereas Frank has a disturbing tendency to pop up fastballs to the right side. Plus, Carlos is a much better base runner that Frank. JM, give it some thought, please.

Never thought I'd read those words in my life. :D

(and I don't agree)

i thought i read that wrong..lol........or did i.. did he just say that carlos is better in the base paths than frank is??? how do ya figure... lee takes off wether anyone tells him to or not and gets caught.. .at least frank has the sense enough to know what hes capable of or not capable of.............face it lee is now and always will be a dumbass............ :headbang

Almost every statistical analysis of Lee's fielding says he's average at worst, while watching him it is hard to believe. I think the reason is that with his huge legs and long strides, he is running a lot faster than we think. As far as his blunders (like calling for a ball that landed 10 rows into the stands), range is much more important that fielding percentage, e.g. Jose Valentin, and he will be an offensive powerhouse this year - as was last year after June 1st, when he figured out the strike zone.

thomas got his bat speed back up i think he can hit those fastballs once again. it must be tuff to swing a bat fast after tearing a muscle in the arm. it took awhile for him to get it back

I wish I had a dvd of that glorious time when CLee tried to give Frank tips on base running last season -

I agree and one reason why I think Frank will be back big time in 2003

Bat speed will be a huge step for Thomas, but the key to him is vision. Last year he wasn't able to read the pitches. He didn't know whether it was a fastball or change or a fastball or curve. He was fooled way too many times, but at the end he looked to finally be picking it back up.

I think his bat speed was fine last season, but I may be wrong. The good news is, if its simply being able to distinguish the pitches, it should come back, cause Frank has always been unbelievable at it. Its also something that doesn't go away as you get older, its something that will go away when you miss all the time Frank did.

He'll be back this year, he'll be back.

Also want to say Welcome Aboard to 56thstbum

Good post on Lee. Watching him he does look ugly, but stat wise he ain't bad. Of course, I do believe he's one of the worse defensive left fielders, but most left fielders stink defensively anyway.

But one thing I like about him, is that he seems to be able to hit the really good pitchers.  I have no stats to back me up, it's just something I seem to have noticed.

Jim....you actually could prove whether or not you are right....but it would take a little bit of time.

On mlb.com you can click on player statistics and what not....if you go to Carlos's stats, and click on his game by game log, you can see how he faired against good pitchers this past year...or check and see which days he did well on and then check the date on a scoreboard and see who the pitcher was he hit well against. If you want to get really technical, you could go to either baseballreference.com or retrosheet.org and figure out how he did....that'd probably take a few hours, so if you keep score of the games as they go along(I personally don't), you could also figure it out that way....that'd be a lot quicker.

Just to point it out if you get a lot of free time on your hands.

Carlos Lee is still a fat Panamanian that is, to quote scouts "a train wreck in LF"  :bringit

WELL f*** YOU, SIDESHOW!!!!! :fyou

AND f*** YOU TOO!!! :fyou :fyou

Carlos will make you wanna eat your words with his play this year! He has defensively improved each year since his entry into the majors, plus his offense isn't something of shame. In fact, Hawk even refered to Carlos as "Little Frank" a few times, comparing the ways he approaches the plate to Frank's. Carlos WILL make you all eat your words!

he has not improved defensively each year..he is treading water at best..and his offensive numbers have been on the decline since he hit 300 3 years ago..did you even watch this idiot run the bases last year???...he is a friggen idiot..

hopefully the signing of daubach will open the door for carlos' departure and free up 4.2 million to make a deal for another starting pitcher not named loaiza...

carlos as "little frank"???..are you serious???....look at thomas ' first 4 years and compare them to dumbass caballo..

but i am with you on not liking "the train wreck in LF"...i prefer "the lawn ornament" myself
