TO not a FA

ISan Francisco 49ers receiver Terrell Owens, who had planned to shop his services around the NFL as a free agent next month, won't be eligible to do so, FOX Sports NFL insider John Czarnecki has learned.

According to league sources, Owens and his agent, David English, missed the deadline to file the necessary paperwork with the 49ers and the NFL's management council in order to void the final three years of his contract. That means Owens' rights revert back to the 49ers and his only way out of San Francisco would be via a trade, the sources said.

Rather than seeing him leave and getting nothing in return, the 49ers can now field trade offers for Owens, who has had a contentious relationship with quarterback Jeff Garcia in San Francisco.

The Ravens, Eagles, Falcons and Buccaneers were among the teams believed to be interested in Owens as a free agent. Whether any would be willing to make a trade offer for him remains to be seen.

A Cleveland radio station has reported that wide receiver/return specialist Dennis Northcutt is in a similar predicament with the Browns. Northcutt had signed a seven-year contract with the Browns in 2000, but the final three years of the deal were supposed to be voidable if he had reached specific performance targets. But since the proper paperwork hadn't been filed in time, the Browns were reportedly going to hold Northcutt to the terms of the full contract.

LOL. Hilarious

That agents ass is grass.

What a dips***. Now the 49ers could probably get a 1st round pick, and I would guess most likely from Tampa Bay, or maybe a 1st and 2nd/3rd from Philly. I could easily see either happening.

:lolhitting ...and he was talking to media about playing w/ McNabb in Philly or Ray Lewis wanting him to go to Baltimore....

Sucks to be TO!

What a huge f***ing moron....that's almost as bad as when the Atlanta Hawks player's agent (I think it was Mike James, not sure) forgot to file the paper work for an option worth a few million, and the guy got a ton less when he became a FA.

wow that sucks for TO. his agent is done for

LMAO. Dumbass. How the hell can you do that when he has been talking his mouth all year long about getting out of SF.

Well that agent's career mite just hav gone down da toilet. I think now Garcia is a certainity to be cut becuase the 49ers can't keep Owens, Garcia and Julian Peterson due to their salary cap problems. I don't think teams like the Ravens would be willin to pay a 1st round pick for TO either.

Ravens don't have one this year...what a blow for them too...Jamal Lewis troubles, and they might have been able to get TO...damn.

I'd be firing my agent after this one. Was Northcuts agent the same as TO's, if so, thats just pathetic.

Let me see if I can find out... give me a few days.

BTW, just for clarity purposes, TO is not guaranteed to be a 49er next year. They still have to wait until the grievance hearings or whatever the hell they are are over.
