Some sobering news for beer-drinking White Sox and Cubs fans: Prices are going up.

 

Even with the increases, the price of a beer at U.S. Cellular or Wrigley is not in the same ballpark as it is at Soldier Field, where $6 buys you 16 ounces.

 

The Cubs are raising the price of a beer from a vendor to $5.25, up 25 cents from last season. The Sox, who charged $4.75 last year, are expected to charge $5.50. For those of you scoring at home and drinking at Sox games, that's a 75-cent increase. The good news for vendors is they will see 10 percent of the increase (2.5 cents) at Wrigley. The bad news is they'll receive only 1 cent at U.S. Cellular regardless of how high the Sox hike prices.

 

After a recent Sox vendor signup session, word of the price hike leaked out, and those in charge made their displeasure known at a subsequent meeting.

 

You'd think people in the business would know better. After all, beer and leaks are about as natural as can be.

My problem is I don't drink liquor. Only beer. I guess I'll have to change my taste.

I saw it in the Sun-Times this morning.

I never have more than 2 beers at the game anyway, so it's a minor detail to me.

maybe reiny really is strapped for cash. trying to raise cash to please us fans and fill some holes in the roster with $quality$ players.

It's a good thing I never drink anything but one bottle of Diet Pepsi at the old ballpark. And that is expensive enough (for the one bottle at the park, I can buy a 6pk of 24oz bottles of Diet Pepsi).

Maybe Reinsdorf thinks this will keep people from getting too drunk and running onto the field... hehe

I was shocked and appaled to read that this morning too!! But I'm used to the $6.00 at the Soldiers Field..so I guess it won't be too bad...but it's just the idea that you are basically paying for a six pack when you buy one beer that kills ya...

I hate spending more on stuff at games but USCF has long been a lot cheaper concessions that other places - when I go to Ford Field I get sticker shocked on every time

Doesn't matter really because they'd have to get Sox approval to do so and of course the Sox get a big chunk of that raise.

I wouldnt put it past any of these sports owners. Think of how much money they would make if they made all those beer swilling fans pay a quarter to use the pisser.

That's a really good idea. I don't know how well it would work though. Do you put a guy at the door of the bathroom with a turnstyle collecting quarters from everybody who goes in? Or is there some sort of cover over the urinal that opens up only after a quarter has been inserted. If that's the case, perhaps people would just pee on the cover, which would defeat the purpose and make a big mess. HMMM.

There are pay restrooms in Europe.. you have to pay before the stall door will open.

Some random thoughts here:

 

There is no way that 25 cents is enough to charge for using the bahtroom if you are a big league club. Come on people! 25 cents is minor league. At least a dollar and maybe another dollar to wash your hands. No we are talking some serious change here and finally have a way to increase the team payroll.

 

I was at a Sox game in 1987 at old Comiskey and they charged $2.50 for a beer and I thought that was unreasonable then. Here in Billings when you attend a Pioneer League game (Reds farm club) you buy your beer or wine coolers from a Team Supporter group. Beer is $3.50 a cup (draft). The money goes back to buying things the team or org. needs to function. I think they may also support some Youth baseball. The community is looking at voting on financing a new baseball park (very state of the art) at the tune of $9M+ with seating for around 6000. However, at the same time the School District is first in line and asking voter permission to raise $100M for new schools and improvements. Can't these people get their priorities straight? Wonder how much beer and other concessions will go up then?

No, they aren't. Not sure why you didn't find it. But they are doing it again this year.
