Bears release veteran QB Chandler

March 19, 2004

LAKE FOREST, Illinois (Ticker) - As expected, the Chicago Bears on Friday released veteran quarterback Chris Chandler.

Chandler is the second quarterback to be released by Chicago this month, following Kordell Stewart. The Bears signed free agent quarterback Jonathan Quinn to back up Rex Grossman.

The 38-year-old Chandler spent the last two seasons with the Bears and started 13 of 17 games played, completing 210-of-353 passes for 2,073 yards and seven touchdowns with 11 interceptions.

A 16-year veteran, Chandler has passed for 28,021 yards and 168 touchdowns. On October 20, 2002, Chandler became the first quarterback in NFL history to start for seven different teams.

Chandler is best known for leading the Atlanta Falcons to the Super Bowl in 1998.

Looks like the Bears may be drafting a QB in the lower rounds.

FAREWELL Crystal Chandelier! :bang

I heard this was goin to happen if he didn't take a paycut.

They probably would of cut him anyway. Still, now its a guarantee they are drafting a qb.

Who would be out there to draft as a backup?

John Navarre? I'm a Michigan fan and the thought of that is hilarious.

How about Jeff Smoker? acid.gif

So the Bears are going to draft a young cub to back up a guy who has little pro playing experience and who has already shown himself to be injury-prone?
