April 17, 200422 yr In my search for the Hey Jude album on cd which does not exist (stupid cd companies) I bought an "alternative" Hey Jude album filled with demos and all kind of out takes and God help me that I am discovering the realm of Beatles rarities and bootlegs) I have just listened to a versioon of Hey Jude from July 29 or 30 1968 that is incredible with all kinds of little extras - some funky blues guitar, someone having piano fun - but this whole disc of unreleased Beatles music is awesome - I am thinking that some of the best music of that era we have never heard must be sitting unreleased somewhere in Apple's vaults or whereever they are keeping the stuff - the Old Brown Shoe demo by George is priceless - some of the variations on tempo, orchestrations, harmonizations, the instruments used and how they are played, it is a whole new world out there and only now can I understand what John was saying in one of his interviews about never having been comfortable with the final released version of any song - some of this unreleased stuff is high, high quality and now s***, one of the tracks is the live version of Hey Jude from the Smothers Brothers show in 1968 and I remember watching that when it first aired - what a memory rush -
April 17, 200422 yr If you feel like burning a copy of that baby and have nowhere to send it, give me a holler. You're so right about the great Beatles boots out there. I have only a fair boot collection, and sadly it's all on vinyl. The 'Black Album', Sweet Apple Trax (2 volumes), Savage Young Beatles (basically backing Tony Sheridan), "A guitar's alright John, But You'll Never Earn a Living From It," Something with "What's Yer New mary Jane" on it, and my two personal favorites, "The Beatles Versus Don Ho" and the Beatles Versus the Third Reich" (both parodies of the VeeJay Beatles Versus the Four Seasons album). I have a couple more I'm forgetting, but those are the better ones. Some day I'll stop being lazy and set up a deal to digitize all my old vinyl, and then I can share the joy. I've told you I have a good friend who, like you, is pissed that the official Beatles CD catalog is the Brit catalog and not the American one, which is who there's no "Hey Jude" in in that release set. He can barely bring himself to listen to the Parlaphone versions of those releases, because the track orders are all different and there are songs on disks like Revolver that he feels shouldn't be there. He adamantly claims the parlaphone releases sound sterile. I grew up chasing down used copies of both catalogs so I don't have the same mindset, but I appreciate that you antiques come by it honestly.

Your friend is totally absolutely 100% correct and right. I will try and burn a copy of the cd next week. Despite the "antiques" comment.

At Dallas Market this week, there are tons of Beatles memorabilia up for auction. I don't remember them all because I only caught the last little bit of the story, but some original drawings of a couple of albums, some clothes owned by Lennon, a piano, and a couple of other things that I can't recall. I wonder how much this stuff will go for...?

April 17, 200422 yr Here's the link. It's the Dallas Guitar Show. Dallas Guitar Show Dang, Internet bidding is closed. And I'm sure the Hofner Bass Signed By Paul McCartney went for a song.

April 18, 200422 yr true perhaps we could make a trade. Let me think of some local color or flavor I could send your way.
April 18, 200422 yr The Beatles are my favorite group, without question. Some of my favorites: Artifacts 1958-1994 14CD Unsurpassed Masters 1962-1969 7CD Thirty Days 17CD White Album Sessions 4CD Songs For Eleanor 2CD Soul Sessions 2CD Pepperland 2CD Alternate Revolver 2CD Alternate Rubber Soul 2CD They have playlists for 1500+ different Beatles bootlegs here: www.bootlegzone.com One guy that I trade with has 4000+ different Beatles bootlegs (solo efforts included). You also have to take into account that a lot of the same stuff has been bootlegged over and over and over. This stuff is like gold. I don't know what I'd do without it. They cost a fortune, though. Vintage Vinyl in Evanston has a nice selection, although the Artifacts 14CD Set would cost you about $400 to $450.
April 18, 200422 yr Wow, Hammerhead, that's a nice collection of boots. I'm not even familiar with half those titles, I've been less active in pursuing them since vinyl went the way of the 8-track tape. I just shelled out a chunk of change on some Zappa and Rundgren boots and got to scolding myself because I've not pursued the Beatles stuff much of late. Then again, you're right - a lot of the same takes show up on 20 or 30 different titles.

It really seems like he figured out how to make gobs and gibs of money and still be himself. I Hate My Frickin I.S.P lyrics The reason that I signed up Is the reason that I hate it I know she's made her mind up I just don't know how she's made it And my dial-up screen has locked me Into a touch tone tune monotony Because some snot-nosed pube has blocked me out And I wait And I wait And I hate my frickin ISP He ain't got go bandwidth left for me And I'll never get back Never get back the time that I waste That's what I hate My job's so hard to swallow But it's got me by the collar In some Motel 6 squalor Where every local call's a dollar I got no time left to jack off I got a deadline that won't back off I'm about to chew my own leg off Cause it's so late And I'm late And I hate my frickin ISP I get bumped for inactivity And I'll never get back Never get back the time that I waste That's what I hate It rained CD roms that gave me Twenty hours free I let my service provider Make a junky outta me And then he cut me off From my online community And now I hate, I hate it I hate I hate I hate I hate I hate my frickin ISP His domain name lookup takes eternity etc... Na na na na na Talking about speaking to the common man . . .
April 18, 200422 yr I love Rundgren's career. It really seems like he figured out how to make gobs and gibs of money and still be himself. Talking about speaking to the common man . . . ISP is a good tune, and "Love of the Common Man" (if that's where your reference was leading) is probably my all time favorite other than the stuff on Runt. Do yourself and pick up a copy of his new album "Liars" (just out last week). It's his first real traditional studio-immersion effort in 10 years, and easily the strongest outing since Nearly Human and Second Wind (a 1989 Nearly Human show was one of Boots I just shelled out for - Saw that show in Indianapolis and it was easily the best Todd show I ever saw). I've enjoyed the tr-i and patroNet experiments, mostly because it fit in with Todd's larger maverick persona, but I gotta say I'm glad to see him getting back to his roots. "Todd and the Liars" will be in my neck of the woods one month from today, and it will be a great show I'm sure. The last couple tours have been him solo - acoustic guitar, piano, iPod... They've been great intimate affairs, but I'm ready for him to rock the house with a full band again. And in an effort NOT to hijack a Beatles thread, I'll point out that Todd is a Beatle-head par excellance...

April 18, 200422 yr Author Count me in as interested for a copy... As for Hey Jude, did you ever get that import copy? How did it turn out? not too bright of me (duh, what's new) to not make clear on that - my "Walrus" label of alternative Hey Jude is the one I was posting about yesterday and came from somewhere in Mexico I believe - odd that it will not play in the jeep cd player but played fine at home, any clue why that would be? My official British cds of Wonderwall skip all over in the jeep and also play fine at home - and "at home" is a JVC boombox, not exactly a state of the art cd player my "Russian Auther Society" cd of Abbey Road/Hey Jude cd came from - guess - Russia - and has all kinds of threats in English on it about unauthorised copying and all kinds of Russian stuff that looks like Brando's sig Hammerhead Johnson puts us all to shame - wow, that is some great s***
April 19, 200421 yr Vince, I'm interested also...I've got a TON of bootleg stuff myself, i'll find it and tell you all what it is sometime soon.
April 19, 200421 yr my "Walrus" label of alternative Hey Jude is the one I was posting about yesterday and came from somewhere in Mexico I believe. I have one called "Down In Havana". It has 15 to 20 different versions of "Hey Jude". Some of my favorite outtakes: There's A Place (Alternate Take) Yes It Is (Lennon solo) Here, There, And Everywhere (McCartney Solo) In My Life (Alternate take, more feeling) We Can Work It Out (Different Version) You've Got To Hide Your Love Away (Acoustic Version) You've Got To Hide Your Love Away (Unidentified Outtake) I'm Looking Through You (Alternate Version) I'm Only Sleeping (Acoustic version) Not Guilty (Harrison Outtake) I Want You..She's So Heavy (Alternate, Gritty Version) Two Of Us (Alternate Take, More feeling) Rocky Racoon (Kinfauns version- Harrison's House) Blackbird (Kinfauns Version) Julia (Kinfauns Version) Dear Prudence (Kinfauns Version) While My Guitar Gently Weeps (Kinfauns Version) Golden Slumbers (Alternate Take, more feeling) She Came In Through The Bathroom Window (Alternate Take) You Never Give Me Your Money (Alternate Take) Something (Mellow version, Guitar only) Across The Universe (Hums Wild Version)

I would kill to hear a few of these. My wife and I's first dance was to "Here, There, and Everywhere", so that is the one I really would like to hear. If it is possible for you to email me some of these files, let me know. I will PM you my home addy.
