The Continuing Decline & Fall of Mark Buehrle

Featured Replies

I think people got spoiled with his 2001 season. At 21-22, he wasn't supposed to be that good.

Alas, there is a reason why Unit, Kevin Brown, etc didn't  win 20 games at 24-25.

Right now, Mark is not even close to being "there".

Personally, I don't think he ever will get there. I can see him being a guy that you want pitching for you, and you even want him pitching for you in big games...you just don't view him as an ace. Basically, if he is your ace, you can start thinking about the offseason.

A solid #2 or a very good #3 pitcher. He could become an ace, but he'd have to improve a hell of a lot in a short amount of time(2-3 years or so).

I think you want to view Buehrle as Jamie Moyer, but having figured it out earlier in his career than Moyer did.

  • 2 weeks later...

7 innings, 0 runs, 2 BB, 6 K's. If that's a decline, he put it off for a night.

Does this thread have to get revived ever good start MB has???

Enough already

Well Rex you know it will get revived everytime he has a bad start.

Exactly. I call it payback for the "I told you so" crowd, who is conviently no where to be seen...

Rex, it really doesn't need to be revived, and I wish it didn't.

It was a stupid thread to start with, designed to start controversy, IMO.

The author of the thread is lurking now though, so perhaps he will come out of shadows.

I hope not though. He's better off writing about the Schaumburg Flyers.

No Mike, he's lurking.

He needs some material for White Sox Times.

He ignored Buehrle's excellent 2nd half last year, but hey ... why deal in facts when it's easier to just be controversial for the sake of being controversial?

Actually it wasn't just a "He" thing. There are a solid bunch of posters who are only around when the team it bad, and revel in the doom and gloom. That is more who I was referring to.

To those people I say, why be a fan?

I understand all about being a realist and not looking at everything through rose colored glasses, etc. etc.

But there's a lot to be said for being optimistic. The team hasn't hit its stride and is in first place.

The GM is talking about being ultra aggressive in terms of improving the club.

None of the players seem to have any negative issues with a rookie manager whom one guy on this site labeled a "buffoon". The clubhouse atmosphere seems to be pretty good. Enthusiasm and intensity have been good, for the most part.

I know it's a White Sox fan's birth right to be caustic, but I'll take the sunny side of the street for now. I'm cautiously optimistic about this year's team.

How's that for going out on a ledge?

14 consecutive scoreless innings against the likes of Baltimore and Minnesota. :headbang

Great performance today by Mark...I'm happy I got to witness it first hand... :headbang

Hey, I got an idea.

Let's lock this topic up until September, and when we bring it up then, we will all point fingers and laugh as Buehrle locks up his 17th win of the year.

You know what that is?

I'll tell ya.

MONEY!!!

Glad to say I was there too with a few buddies. Section 132 Row 16. The game kicked some major ass today. :headbang

Put some confidence into the fans and hopefully, and most importantly our bats.

Nice seats SFF, I was right by you in section 133 row 22. And yes, today's game DID kick ass. :headbang

And now we have today's response by the Buehrle detractors...

I was hoping you would resurrect this thread after yesterday. :notworthy

I can't take any credit, someone beat me to this thread yesterday. I was just trying to present the other side of the story

I just want to see who will stand up when things are going good, instead of just when things are bad. The silence speaks volumes.

I don't think anyone expected him to lose every game. I do not think his fans are expecting him to win every game. But let's see at the end of the season what happens to his stats. Of course then we can argue which stats matter.

If his ERA is up, his fans wil claim it's W-Ls that matter

If his Wins are down, his fans will point to ERA. ;)

But to debate this after every start is a Soxtalk tradition, carry on :lolhitting

Buehrle got the standing ovation Sunday... :headbang :headbang :headbang

And I respect you for staying true to your opinion and stance Tex. I think you have been the only one.

And a well deserved one it was. I have seen Marks last two starts where he has thrown 13 2/3 scoreless innings and gotten 26 runs of support. Mark might have to buy us season tickets to keep this up
