Quality start, technically speaking, is not particularly quality -- 6inn/3 ER is 4.50 ERA, which is league average. It's only quality when it's either 4th or especially 5th starter who does it.....but when we're talking 2-3, I prefer 7 inn/3 er and ace - 7 inn/2 er

 

Show wasn't great -- hardly threw a change up, which he is going to have to do sooner or later lest ML hitters get comfortable with slider-fastball combo, and walked Tony friggin Clark 3 times -- but overall was very, very solid. I was gonna start a second "kudos" thread but this one'll do.

 

I hope Neal took notes - his time has come. I hope Ozzie realizes that.

 

Oh and.....Please don't compare Show to Loaiza -- E-Lo has a better control, better four-seamer, better cutter and a change-up that hitters don't crush 420 feet. Show has a nice sinker and a serviceable slider, but unless he discovers his inner Buerhle, he is just a good #4, nothing more. If Scott's year-end ERA is 4.20, I'll be ecstatic. The abslutely worst thing would be if Sox management goes the cheap route, thinking this rotation is good enough for the pennant race/playoffs.

Took a little time to find it, but I was cautiously optomistic.

I think I read somewhere Scot has given up 1HR in his past 26+ innings of work. Of all the plusses we already mentioned another big thing is that he is left-handed. And we all know that the Twins have a big weakness against lefties. Here's to Scot having a real coming-out this year and turning some heads.

I agree Scho has pitched very well, far above my expectations.

 

Hats off to Kenny for having faith in him.

 

Colon, by the way, is now 3-1. I wish we had him, with Scho as our #5. That would put Danny in the pen, where he belongs, and we would have run away with the division.

 

Darn, the Colon non-signing still freaking hurts. Especially given our shaky BP, something he would have helped keep fresh.

I like that he is getting groundballs, but in ST he was K'ing people like crazy. That change-up is such a key because when it works, it adds another dimension, allowing him to set hitters up much better.

 

Then again, when the change doesn't work, it gets hit a LONG way.

Last year he was pitching in a division that had some of the more pathetic-hitting teams of the last decade (Tigers and Tribe as well as the mediocre Twins) and he still barely cleared the 4.00 ERA mark.

 

I know he is off to a good start, but a 4.00 ERA pitcher ain't worth nearly 13 Mill per when your payroll is 60+

 

I'd rather have Show and wait until the All-Star Break to acquire a REAL ace pitcher, not an apathetic

I too was on the Scho to the Pen Bandwagon. So far he has done a great job of proving me wrong, but I am not completely sold yet either. I just hope he keeps proving me wrong

Shows u how important how defense is goin to be wheneva Shoe takes the mound. I feel very comfortable with Willie Harris and Juan Uribe in our infield. Shoe always had a changeup, it just wasn't very good, but in ST he found a new changeup grip and it's been workin really well for him as the results show.

Still, I'm not going to say I was right, at least not yet. Scho has pitched good, but 3 starts don't make a season or a career. He has good stuff though and the fact that he's pitching inside a lot is huge. He also is doing a really good job of throwing his slider in-in on righties and its really tying them up.

 

He's still having some control issues, but he's mixing speeds pretty well, although I'd still like to see more sliders. I think the pitch your referring to cheat (the 85-88) was at times his slider and at other times his cutter. He used both quite consistently.

I am not a Schoenweiss supporter ever since we penciled him to be the 4th starter. I am just happy for the 2 wins he has given.
