Koch is no longer the closer...please

Featured Replies

Anyone think this is good for the team? Not Koch, of course. But for the team. These close games with their sphincters tightened up and the pressure on can help prepare them for a playoff run. No, I know it's not ideal. I'm just looking for a silver lining. I think the 2000 team was hurt from blowing out so many teams.

as a matter of fact if its 10 - 0 and Koch comes in and we win 10 - 9 I am perfectly fine with that..

im sure everyone on his board would be fine with that...

a win is a win, simple as that.. i dont see what the problem is here

Oops. I stand corrected.

Come on, Steff. You know what he means.

Eye.. I guess I don't.

I don't want a closer that can't hold a lead without a 3 or 4 run cushion.

Kind of defeats the purpose.. doesn't it. :huh

Alrighty..

At least you're consistant.

All i know is, I dont have a problem with Koch until he starts blowing saves

As of right now hes 5 of 6.. and has got the job done his last few outings earning a save

Last night for example... Bases loaded with no outs... Koch got out of that with a save, and I think if they would have pulled Koch we would have lost..

As long as Koch keeps getting the job done i dont see where any of you have an argument

I thought the purpose of a closer was to close out games and get the save :huh

appears to be what Billy is doing isnt it

What has he gotten done...???

He's been lucky that we had 1 more run than the other guys.

While it's nice to sometimes be more lucky than good.. it definitely doesn't equal skill.

Again I repeat

Luck or not, a SAVE is a SAVE

He got the save, both games we won... doesnt matter how he does it he did what he was asked to DO

Koch just needs to learn to NOT let umps into his head. he's been squeezed a bit in the last two games and it was obvious that was getting into his head. GET HIM A SHRINK!

You can all hate Koch and say he sucks and we need to get rid of him but we ARE the First Place Chicago White Sox and we HAVE a closer who IS getting the job done... Until things change from that I dont see any reason for complaints

Hey.. if you want to turn a blind eye to the walks and the erraticness.. so be it.

Then maybe not bother with the threads where those of us that want to complain about him, do.

Oops. I stand corrected.

Yep...

Unreal, isn't it. :headshake

maybe you should just not complain and be happy hes getting saves and not blowing them :huh

just a thought

Come on, Steff. You know what he means.

If you know what he means, maybe you can explain it.

Sure Koch is getting the job done for now. Until he gets the first guy out teams will just take pitches to get that lead off walk cause it coming. Sure we are in 1st Place, Koch has 4 Saves. But, Koch instills a never let die attitude to the other team.

Maybe you should (to quote you...) "shut the hell up" and let people express their opinions. ;)

I thought I did, but now I have no idea. I still stand by Koch, but I don't think I would if he started giving up 9 runs in the ninth.

Well until Koch starts blowing saves and we fall out of first place because of him Im not gonna sit here and bash him when hes getting the job done.. At least he isnt getting pounded like he was last year and as much as you all hate him you cant deny hes getting the job done, and if you do then thats just sad

Anyone?

Not even Koch himself from his comments last night. Even HE thinks he's pitching like an idiot..

ok 9 runs in the 9th is a little much... what I was getting at there was a sox win is a sox win, I dont care how it goes

Did someone say he wasn't getting the job done...? :huh

Anthony - how many saves does Koch have to blow before you demote him? 1, 2, 3? How many?

I just think waiting till he blows saves is arbitrary and stupid. The only reason he hasn't blown saves is because of the size of the lead when he comes in, not because he's pitching well.

I think we all have to agree he's pitching poorly - too many walks, too high an ERA and too slow a fastball.

I agree with you to a point. I think everybody here would have the same attitude if Koch would throw in some "easy" saves in between these tough ones.
