May 7, 200421 yr Dennis Ulacia Earns Pitcher of the Week Honors Barons' Left-hander Ulacia Named Southern League Pitcher of the Week By Danny Santaromita Dennis Ulacia was brilliant this week and his performances earned him the Southern League's BC Powder Pitcher of the Week for the week of April 30-May 6. Ulacia pitched 11.2 innings in two starts going 2-0 with an ERA of 0.77. The 23 year-old also had ten strikeouts to no walks and only six hits. Ulacia has been impressive this season, with an ERA of 2.70 in 27.2 innings of work. The 1999 8th round draft pick of the Sox started the season in the bullpen until Kris Honel became injured. Since moving into the rotation Ulacia has been a pleasant surprise. It is likely that he will move back to the bullpen when Honel and Ryan Wing get healthy and rejoin the Barons' rotation. It is pitching like this that has the Barons in first place in the Southern League's West Division at 14-12. A lineup that has only two hitters batting over .270 has left the pitching to get wins for them, and the pitchers have gone out and done just that. The rotation and the bullpen have both done a great job in shutting down opposing hitters. Nine pitchers on the Barons have a sub 3.70 ERA. ---------- Also from the Southern League's website: Barons’ pitcher Dennis Ulacia was named BC Powder Southern League Pitcher of the Week for April 30-May 6. Ulacia went 2-0 for the week, giving up just one run in 11.2 innings pitched. Allowing just six hits, Ulacia struck out 10 without walking a batter. An eighth round draft choice of the White Sox in 1999, Ulacia resides in Hialeah, FL.

May 8, 200421 yr It's good to see Ulacia doing so well. I kinda would like for him to stay in the rotation with the way he's pitching, but hopefully he'll continue lighting it up in the bullpen.
