poccer
Ozzie's stubborness about starting Cotts does not make any sense to me. First, he seems to be the best option the Sox have for the 5th starter, a position that has destroyed the team over the past few years. Second, lefty starters in the AL central have an advantage against teams like the Twins and Indians. And finally, it's not like we're lacking in replacements for Cotts in the pen. Wunsch could take Cotts current role.
danman31
While I'd like to give Diaz another chance, it's very hard to argue Cotts as the 5th starter. He looks like he's got it this year.
aboz56
KW has something against Wunsch, that is why he is exhausting all options before proceeding to the most logical solution to this problem. Sad part is that he's not giving us the best chance to win and I am not happy about that whatsoever. We should also option Rowand and call up Reed, but he's not going to do that either until it's too late.
Chisoxfn
The Suntimes had an article today and it seems like Kelly is going to be dealt. Also, I think Diaz has made some good pitches today. The tribe is a good offense and he has shown a nice slider and a good fastball with some movement. His control has been subpar tonight and he's really leaving his off speed stuff up and over the plate and I'm going to assume thats what happened his last start as well on the 4 homers (or however many he gave up). Still, I Wouldn't give up on him too quick. He showed at least some stones by battling and when the Sox made the errors he quickly got the next batter out. I think Diaz may surprise everyone his next outing and I personally hope he stays in the rotation. I should add that he was pitching on 3 days rest and is now over 100 pitches. However, if the Sox start working Cotts a little longer then I have no problem moving him to the rotation and letting Wunsch do his thing from the pen. danman31
Why was Diaz pitching on 3 days rest anyway?
Chisoxfn
Why was Diaz pitching on 3 days rest anyway? The other option was going with Garland on 3 days rest and he threw 116 pitches if I recall in the 1st game of the doubleheader against Balitmore. Diaz only threw like 68 pitches that day, so he was much more fresh and Garland definately needed the normal 4 days.

Agreed - add to that the fact he's facing a very, very hot offense in only his second start, plus the rain delay. I'm not trying to make excuses - if he sucks, he sucks. But, all things considered, I want to see him pitch on a day where he has proper (more than three days) rest, no rain delays or anything like that. Guest JimH
Guys, I think Diaz has potential, but he's not there yet. Two things: 1. He wasn't pitching inside, he didn't make anybody move their feet. Mistake. 2. The hitters seem to see what he throws really well. Contrast that with Lee, the guy Cleveland threw tonite. That guy hides the ball and it's tougher to get a read on him. Diaz was working in and out and made some good pitches, but he also needs to work up and down. He didn't move the hitters eyes around enough tonite, or against Baltimore. Once around the order with the Orioles and he got rocked. Cleveland watched some film, I'm sure. They rocked him in the 1st - imo, they know he's not working the ball up and down and they're not afraid to dig in, which is the pitching inside issue. IMO, he's got a good arm but he is not ready.
