May 25, 200421 yr Author Loaiza has changed quite a bit. He is still my favorite Sox pitcher even though he lost three times in a roll, but the year is still young. I hope to see him get his sixth win tomorrow as he is leading the pitching staff with 5 wins. One more thing. I am still proud Esteban decided to stay with the Sox once again. Not like some other people *cough*Colon*cough* Loiaza didn't decide to stay with the Sox, the White Sox had an option on him that they exercized.
May 26, 200421 yr I also think that if a pitcher makes an error, and then there is an "Unearned run" that it should still count against the ERA -- After all, it was the pitchers fault the run scored. The pitcher is taking a hit on his defensive stats with the error, ie fielding pct. The ERA is an attempt to accurately measure his pitching effectiveness, not his defense. Granted that it is the pitcher's fault, but that's now what these statistics are designed to measure.

I remember how much Mike Sirotka suffered because of Fordyce-Konerko-Durham-Caruso-Norton in 1999. Not necessarily errors, but just bad all around defense. And you just KNEW that if he had Robbie-Vizquel-Fryman behind him, quite a few of his earned runs as well as unearned runs wouldn't happened. On the filip-side, a pitcher should take responsibility for the meltdown. Sure, the 1st unearned run or two that score after a 4th out was given by defense may or may not be his fault. But some pitchers seemingly use it as an excuse to just fall apart - runs all unearned, but there is no excuse for 3rd, 4th, 5th runs scoring./

May 26, 200421 yr When will you all learn that it doesn't matter how many runs Billy gives up.. or how many walks.. or how many "almost" saves he blows... as long as he wins.
May 26, 200421 yr witesoxfan.... it really doesnt matter if you care about ERA or not Koch is saving games, period.. How about WHIP then? 1.38? The fact that he's had the opportunity to come in and save games where the Sox have had 2-run leads or 3-run leads and then almost blew those leads tells me enough. I'm suggesting that he has gotten lucky that he has only blown 1 save in 8 chances. So, I don't care that all you think about is that Billy Koch just saves games(and BTW, we are only in May...we'll see how many games he has blown in July or so). I don't want to pay $5 buying a new bottle of Tums every time Koch comes in, watching him load the bases and come inches away from letting it all get blown to hell.
