Wunsch clears waivers

Featured Replies

I'm shocked this wasn't posted here yet, after all the posts about how the Sox we're screwing him.

Left-handed reliever Kelly Wunsch has cleared waivers and has been outrighted to Triple-A Charlotte. Wunsch did draw some interest from other teams, including Cleveland, but his $800,000 salary was an obstacle. With the move, the Sox have 39 players on their 40-man roster.

Well, someone is getting brought up or a trade is going down quite soon.

Do you have any ideas as to who would be traded or brought up? Borchard or Reed?

Borchard is already on the 40 man roster, Reed was not. So this move does open a spot to put him on it.

I don't think they want to call up Reed just yet, Borchard I think they'd want to once he's fully healed. It must be a trade... I'm getting anxious.

Get rid of the following.

Wright for coke can

Crede for machinery

Alomar Jr. for his brothers hand

Valentin for his minor league baseball club

Perez, Rowand, Rauch for Garcia.

Wright for coke can

No. You don't trade injured goods.

Crede for machinery

Crede should only be dealt as part of a package if it's a move that will put us over the top, undoubtedly.

Alomar Jr. for his brothers hand

You'll get nothing for Alomar Jr. We got max value for him in getting Pacheco for him a couple years ago, and Pacheco was just a project at the time.

Valentin for his minor league baseball club

Again, you'll get very little for Jose Valentin. May as well keep his .270 average and 10 homers along with his OPS of .850-.900 on the team. Jose should go nowhere...if he goes anywhere, the Sox are making a big mistake.

Perez, Rowand, Rauch for Garcia.

That's the only move that makes any sense, and that doesn't even make sense...the Mariners would want a prospect who is damn near ready for the majors, not Timo Perez. Perez will be lucky to get you anything.

You don't make moves just to make moves, especially dumbass moves like that.

whats the difference... if it were be to trade for garcia we have room anyway. Due to the package including either rauch or borchard probally... Correct??

Danny Wright can be put on the 60-day DL at anytime (which does not count against the 40-man roster), so I don't think this is necessarily a precursor to something definite. I think it just gives them more flexibility. I guess they tried to trade him to no avail.

I guarantee you that had Wunsch been pitching to Mark Korsay, he would not have hit a HR or even a double. Worst case scenario, he'd either walk or hit a single ala Blalock, which with 1 out and tied ballgame you can definately live with.

Wunsch haters crack me up. They give Cotts and Adkins all the benefit of the doubt they could muster, but a pitcher who was absolutely f***ing filthy in the first half of 2003 before injurying himself? Nah, get rid of the bum.

Do I think the fact that he has lost velocity makes him mortal? Yes, at his best he threw about 87-88, so obvisouly he has to build the arm strenght.......But since presumably his shoulder and elbow joints and ligaments are fine, he could improve said velocity as he goes on.

His last outing in AAA was striking out the side. He has yet to give up an ER in the bigs.

Klassic Kenny: embrace losers like Wright and Perez; run Foulke and Wunsch out of organization.

Brando, if Wunsch is so good, why did every other team pass on him? Seems like SOMEBODY could use a quality lefty out of the bullpen.... if he were that good.

well i think its pretty obvious.. until he builds his arm strength back up to 2003 form, he's not worth the 800,000.

So basically, why not wait on him to build that arm strength up and have the White Sox pay for it, and then grab him closer to the deadline for again nothing. smart managing if you ask me.

There is not much of a market for situational lefty these days.

What can you do?  :huh

Release Timo. Get rid of Burke.

Call up Wunsch. Call up Reed.

Solved.

$800k is nothing (actually it is much less than that now that we are two months into the season) for a team that sees value in him. Your scenario doesn't work, because if a team really thought he was worth something, they wouldn't take the chance some other team would claim him. And if they did want to pick him up later, it would cost them a player because they would have to trade for him.

A team cannot think as you suggested if they really think a player can help them, because they are competing against 28 other teams for that player on the waiver wire.

You can make all the guarantees you want, however they are nonsense. He is not the same pitcher he once was. Forget about him, there is no way you will ever know what he would have done in that situation. Everyone in every organization knows what he is. A left handed situational pitcher and an injury just waiting to happen. He has been injured often. This past injury was not his first and it won't be his last. This is why every team has passed him up and won't give us anythig decent in return. Open your eyes.

Very well motherf***er, how many left-handed batters hit a HR off Wunsch in the regular season in, say, the last 7 months?

1? 5?

Take a sit.
