Oooh I love this subject....schadenfreude! :headbang :cheers

I just hope those of you who want to throw 40/4 at Freddy Garcia heed the advice. If Ponson........and Colon....and Millwood....Chan Ho Park....Dreifort....and Maddux.....signings didn't teach you anything, nothing will.

Yeah, but he sure will eat up all those innnigs! Who could we ever get to replace all those innings he was eating up last year?

:D

Last year he was effective for us & shut up his critics about as often as MB is shutting up C Rectum this season ( Where is ass boy these days anyway? ).

Obviously he's been a far too frequent regular at Dunkin Donuts & Taco Bell this past offseason.

Ya know what Nuke... last year Paul sucked bad. The atmosphere change has obviously helped him. Who knows what Colon would be doing on this team. Chemistry has been hotly debated...

Hindsight is 20/20.

Remember compare Colon to Wright, Cotts, Rauch, etc.

I'm glad JR has a little more cash to spend.

I will forget Colon when I see what mid season pick-ups we make.

Without looking at wins and losses, how much better are his numbers than Wright, Cotts, Diaz, Rauch...etc.? I know his numbers are not 11 million per year better.

"Colon has turned in only one quality start in his past nine outings and might be irritated by more than just a stiff back."

Hmmm, back problems for an overweight guy? Inconceivable!

Colon's numbers :puke

12 Games Started

69 Innings Pitched

83 Hits

25 Walks

3 Hit Batters

1.61 WHIP

6.00 ERA

As I have mentioned before, I don't care if we lose money and win a WS. Until we rank teams in the standings my profit, all I care about is Colon an addition or a subtraction on the field. With Colon in the rotation, we win at least 3 or 4 more games.

When JT adds me to his will, I'll care about his and the shareholder's riches.

Milwaukee made a ton of money last year, as did the Tigers, do you think their fans were jumping up and down?

Harsh reality would you rather the team finished 4th and make money or won a WS and lost money?

Did you hear anyone cheering in Milwaukee last season? They were #1 in Profits Anybody making foam $ for fans to wear?

I understand it is a business. I understand that winning teams manage to put together the best roster with the available resources. I just cannot understand fans accepting a losing team so the owner can make more money.

You are missing my point. It's not OUR money.

Hell, i'd rather have them spend spend spend and win, go for it. Reality is they can't, and i understand that it's not reasonable for the Sox to lose money.

We both have the same point, it's not OUR money. However, it is the team we follow, commonly refered to as OUR team. I want OUR team to win a World Series before this century ends. When we talk about what would make a great season, making money isn't high on the list.

Do you think Yankee fans ever say, Gee, do you think our payroll is too high? It would be like Steff asking "does this dress make my butt look big"

Of course i want this team to win. But your earlier posts led me to believe that they should just spend spend spend and lose a ton of money in hopes of winning a world series. You said "i don't care if we lose money and win a WS." That's nice, but there's no guarantee that if you do spend money (and go into a hole) you'll win the world series. It's not reasonable, because if it doesn't happen the organization will just keep going backwards. You can only work with the amount of money you have, hope to turn a profit, and put a winning team on the field at the same time.

Also, your yankee reference makes no sense. Of course fans don't care what the payroll is, it's not their money. It's not yours; and the things you are saying are unrealistic (not to mention that Colon in here woul be a HUGE waste of money right now).

Oh, and point for your Steff comment.

When the decision was made to not add one more season to Colon's offer he was IMHO the best starter we had down the stretch. He flat out pitched his butt off the last month of the season. We didn't sign him and instead went into the season with two unproven starters.

Just spending will not win a championship, but fans accepting not spending and losing will not win a championship either. Do you think the Yankees would have resigned Colon? Would NY be talking about not being able to resign Maggs?

If we have ownership that cannot compete in MLB, then maybe JR and the stock holders need to sell. This isn't Milwaukee, St Louis, etc. Chicago is a major city and certainly can support a bigger budget team.

And what is Colon doing now?

Fans accepting not spending? What should we do, stop going to the games? Oh wait, we already do that

Yes, we are in Chicago, but a high percentage of people in this city are cubs fans. This makes us more similar to a mid market team than it does a huge market team like NY. We are nothing close to the Yankees in that respect. If you are trying to tell me that the Yankees are good because the fans put pressure on Steinbrenner, and therefore they would have signed Colon and Ordonez, etc...i don't know what to tell you there, that's just BS

This city can support a better team if it wins, and fans start supporting the Sox in return. Until then, we have to deal with this budget that isn't as high as we would wish.

What is Colon doing? He's pitching and winning some games. What is Wright, Rauch, Cotts, Diaz, etc. etc. etc. doing? Remember it wasn't this year's salary that was the problem, it was 2009s. The Sox did not want to go 5 years.

I got a little off track here.

This team needs a 5th Starter and a Closer. If JR says, sorry we cannot afford one, you may find the financial situation honey for that bitter medicine, I do not.

I agree that it is a reality the team has to deal with but again, I do not care if the shareholders lose money this year and the Sox win a WS. I am hoping that JR will spend the Colon money at the midseason point.
