June 7, 200421 yr I've seen enough of Rowand and Perez in right field for the time being and with Mags out for an extended period, it is time to call Borchard up to the show to see what he can do on a regular basis. Here's what Borch is doing so far this year at AAA in 47 games: .289 BA, 10 HR, 38 RBI, .857 OPS, 12 doubles, 4 steals in 180 AB's, also he has struck out 38 times, which is fairly low for Borchard. I don't really see where Burke or Dransfeldt are helping us win and I think it's time to give Borchard his chance to play everyday for 4-6 weeks while Maggs is recovering... My questions are, why don't the Sox see this and why are they reluctant to give Joe the call?
June 7, 200421 yr Suprised one of these threads hasn't come up sooner. Rowand scored 2 runs and drew a walk in last nite's game I think and Gload pinch hit for a key RBI. Things won't change for a week at least, giv Borchard another week to get hot once again at Charlotte.
June 7, 200421 yr He'll be in Chicago within 16 days. Book it! Ah - so you've began a countdown, Rex? Well - if they do send someone down, I hope it's Drandsfeldt. Without Burke on the team, Ozzie isn't confident pinch hitting for Olivo/Alomar. Actually, we wouldn't have gotten that late inning run (RBI single Gload) if it hadn't been for Burke.
June 7, 200421 yr I'd be thrilled to see The Borch again. I think he can really solidify that CF spot, now and the future
June 7, 200421 yr whatever we have to do to get arow out of right field is fine with me. i cover my eyes when balls are hit his way
June 7, 200421 yr I'm ready for Borchard. better find out what he can do 'cause I ain't expecting Number 30 to be at 35th and Dan Ryan next season. Good luck, Joe
June 7, 200421 yr I say give Gload a chance. I'm done with Perez. He's not that good. But Rowand seems to hit LHP fine, and Gload should really be given a shot everyday. If Gload can do well, then we are looking good. Not saying I'm against calling up Borchard, more that I just want Gload to be given a fair shot at starting.
June 7, 200421 yr Don't know if everyone's seen this yet but it's not looking too good for Joey B and Reed... (this was in Peter Gammons' latest notebook) Williams asked Ozzie Guillen if he wanted Borchard or Jeremy Reed to be brought up to replace Magglio Ordonez. "Ozzie said no, that he wants to give the playing time to bench guys who have been contributing," says Williams, meaning Aaron Rowand, Ross Gload and Timo Perez. "He feels that with additional playing time, when Magglio comes back, they will be that much sharper."
June 7, 200421 yr Here's the rest of that quote..... White Sox looking to plug holes Make no mistake, the Chicago White Sox are very good. Their starting pitching has been in the top three in ERA, the staff is third in the league behind Boston and Oakland in lowest OPS allowed -- a good measure of stuff -- and they have done it without a fifth starter. In fact, they haven't had a win out of the fifth starter spot since 2002. And to make their place atop the Central more remarkable, they cannot win on the West Coast; Sunday night's loss in Seattle was their 37th in their last 45 West Coast games. So Ken Williams continues to walk the floor for another starter. Williams, like Brian Cashman, Theo Epstein and others, was told by Mariners GM Bill Bavasi that he wants to wait a couple of more weeks before he starts taking bids on Freddy Garcia. Williams has talked to the Expos about Tomo Ohka, as have the Yankees. "Unfortunately I'm not very patient," says Williams. One young player who is not available in a deal is Joe Borchard. "No way will I trade him," says Williams of the former Stanford quarterback who has begun to put it together in Triple-A and is on a tear that included five homers and 13 RBI in a nine-game stretch through Friday. "It took him time to learn that baseball is different from football because it's a game of controlled aggression," says Williams. "Joe is very intense, but he has made great strides. He's going to be an exception player in time." Williams asked Ozzie Guillen if he wanted Borchard or Jeremy Reed to be brought up to replace Magglio Ordonez. "Ozzie said no, that he wants to give the playing time to bench guys who have been contributing," says Williams, meaning Aaron Rowand, Ross Gload and Timo Perez. "He feels that with additional playing time, when Magglio comes back, they will be that much sharper."
June 8, 200421 yr Author Don't know if everyone's seen this yet but it's not looking too good for Joey B and Reed... (this was in Peter Gammons' latest notebook) I saw this... My reactions: 1) Gammons is usually wrong. 2) In this case, since it's a quote, he probably isn't unless he plagarised... If he is right.... :puke
June 8, 200421 yr I'd love to see Borchard in RF while we are waiting for Magglio to return. If he could step and supply some power and RBI that would really balance our lineup. Seeing Bajenaro in the pen would be nice too!
