Texsox
The more I think about our catcher situation, the more I like Alomar getting some more games. Maybe because I was a catcher and I'm old, that I like old catchers with a season or two left. I am a MO fan, but I honestly like the trade off of some offense for a veteran's presence working with the pitching staff down the stretch. One last hurrah for Sandy. israel4ever
Pudge could be this year's Pudge too. Detroit is gonna be a "seller" before the trade deadline, Pudge was with Ozzie last year, and his contract is not too prohibitive.
DonkeyKongerko
Alomar has about one and a half legs on a good day. I don't think he has anymore Pudge left in him. I will say he is a great guy to have on the team for both leadership and his game-calling abilities. One article said that Olivo had shown little progress in the latter area. Catcher's ERA is a very overlooked stat in baseball.

cwsox
we got this new catcher Ben whatever and now we know why Jamie Burke was called up - with Sandy anchoring the catching staff we will do ok - as I said elesewhere it was vey tough for me to lose Miguel Olivo but quality to get quality and I heard Sandy say he wants to pay another year or two and that will allow him to shepherd some young catching talent into reliable catchers while we got the starter we desparately needed having a great young catcher is not that great when the quality of the pitching staff isn't that high - I thjink everyone has forgotten the Schoeneweis factor - we were down to three on our staff, we have no number 5 and now we have no number 4 with Scott's injury - we will win more games with Garcia pitching than we will with Miguel catching our rotating platoon of mostly ineffectual 4s and 5s

We were all screaming for a 5th starter BEFORE Scott went on the DL. How crucial was getting Garcia added to our rotation at this point? Very. IRod is already a fixture in Detroit - he is very media savvy and the town loves him - the Tigs just swept Arizona and they are a much better team, their recent additions have been signing extended contracts and no one of quality from Detroit is going anywhere
YASNY
IRod is alreay a fixture in Detroit - he is very media savvy and the town loves him - the Tigs just swept Arizona and they are a much better team, their recent additions have been signing extended contracts and no one of quality from Detroit is going anywhere Considering you have your fingers on the Tiger's pulse, I'll forget about the possibility of getting IRod. The Tigers waaaaay overpaid for a guy who is chronically injured. There is no way that the Sox should trade for that contract. Yeah when IRod is healthy, he is the best in the game, but how often is he healthy?
Chisoxfn
If we deal with the Tigers, get Brandon Inge and Ugie Urbina. Urbina isn't having a fantastic year, but he's still a quality arm and Inge (on the DL right now) is finally showing off his offense and he's long been a very good defensive player. He hasn't been a full time catcher for a bit, but he has a very strong arm and quick release and Hawk probably talks once a week how he was one of the best catchers the club has went up against in recent years. SoxFan1
Why do we need a closer all the sudden? There is no need to give uo quality prospects for a position player that is not needed. If we gave up Sweeny pr Borchard for Smoltz, its a waste. You'd be giving up a top prospect for an old man who is not needed/has someone else who is doing BETTER at his position. Chisoxfn
BTW, Jas, what intrigues you about Juan Cruz????? Fantastic stuff and I think Coop can make him a little better. He already has pitched good out of the pen in Atlanta, not spectacular, but good, and then next year he could be an option for a starters spot. He'll help the club this year out of the pen, especially because it would mean audios Mike Jackson. If someone just got him to trust his stuff and throw strikes, he would be absolutely filthy and thats exactly the type of pitching coach Coop is. He'll give a pitcher a lot of confidence in their stuff. I think thats probably the biggest difference with Jon. Now Jon's next hurdle is forgetting about the mental errors and just focusing 100% all the time. He was absolutely filthy his last few starts. He looked so nasty against the Cubs up until the errors and all the lapses.

SoxFan1
I agree they need a Reliever. But not a Closer who can be a reliever or a starter who can be a reliever. We need a Right Handed Set-Up man. Period. Sorta like Octavio Dotel.

Then again, he is almost 33yo, so who knows how much life is left in those knees and back. Brandon Inge I like. How about it, Detroit?
